Basic Medic First Aid® with AED - Medic First Aid® with AED (automated external defibrillator) is a ba- sic training course in emergency care designed for use in the business/industrial setting. Cardiopulmonary resus- citation (CPR), AED use, and other important emergen- cy care skills are combined into this course, which allows the graduate to function with one consistent set of priori- ties in a medical emergency. Students learn the same pri- orities of care and approach to the patient used by profes- sionals. This approach results in a continuity of care as the patient is passed on to the EMT, nurse, and doctor. Successful completion of the course means the student has acquired these skills, understands the dangers of an emergency scene and how to evaluate them, and under- stands the use of protective barriers. Taught by nationally certified instructors, the course satisfies OSHA require- ments for industry and business. A Medic First Aid® with AED course will be offered Tuesday, August 21 from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. in the Health and Wellness Classroom at Memorial Southside Office, 1100 West 12th Avenue in Jasper. The Indiana De- partment of Transportation announces a full closure for State Road 64 near Augusta. Beginning on or around Tuesday, Aug. 28, INDOT maintenance crews will close S.R. 64 near the inter- section of S.R. 257 for a pipe replacement project. Work is expected to last about a day depending upon weather conditions. During the op- eration, the closure will be in place around the clock. Local traffic will have ac- cess up to the point of clo- sure. All other traffic should use the official detour using S.R. 257 and S.R. 56. Once the project is com- plete, motorists will notice rough pavement for a short time. This is to allow fill ma- terial to compact under traf- fic conditions before crews come back with asphalt. INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert near crews.
