Have you figured out what to put in the Light Up Winslow Parade of 13 years? Time is running closer to the time. We all have a great time lighting up our favorite item for all to see. Winslow seniors meet at the Winslow Community Center on Monday and Tuesday. Petersburg seniors meet on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Fri- day in the Courthouse basement. There were no postcards this week at Sweets Column, Winslow, IN 47598. The Winslow Patoka River was quite low in last week's column, but last Wednesday, the rain began, and it stayed around for several days. Wednesday, the rain followed Norm and I from Princeton and then in Oak- land City into Pike County. Later on in the afternoon, another round of rain began, but left for a while until later on in the evening. Friday early morning we had more rain, but this time we had a lightening show first. So now the Pa- toka River has risen a bit, but I believe right now on Friday, it has rose to half full or close to it. Norm and I have to decide now where to stack the truck loads of wood we have been cutting in the yard for a cozy, warm cabin this winter. We had a call from Jenny that she had trees that had fallen and wondered if we would want them. A fter we took a gander at it, we said yes and we started the cutting and loading of several loads. As of now, we have loads more to cut, load, split and find places to stack. Oh, plus we have to do the clean-up and al- so watch out for the black snake that lives in the area. When I saw it, I gave out a scream and Norm was busy saw- ing, so he didn't see it at all. Sunday, August 12 was the 77th Poe- hlein Reunion, where 60 of our rela- tives met for a fun time together as we ate some great food that was brought in, along with those tasty desserts. We all enjoyed the time to laugh, talk about families, see the new additions and see how they have grown. Our fami- ly has a memorial table where this past year we lost two of our relatives, Paul and Alene Poehlein. We also had several items to auction off to help our kitty. Greg was the auc- tioneer and Lincoln took the items to whoever won them. Pictures painted by Aunt Mildred Ashby, dishes from Aunt Flor- ence and Uncle Tone Poehlein, hand- made items from Steve Poehlein's Ves- sel's pottery, potholders and more. The theme this year was "come as you are." Janice and Winnie handed out items to all the kids; they all loved the bubble wands. Next year's theme will be "Un- der the Sea Mermaids" on the second Sunday in August 2019, same place. We have a house guest by the name of Mom, also known as Mildred, who will stay here another week. Terri Ann has been here also to help out when I'm not here. Laura stayed several nights, and it was a blessing to see her again in person. At the 13th Winslow Community Festival this year is a Lip Sync the Old- ies - Doo Wop is born again, and if you are interested, get your three people together and call 812-789 -2366 for de- tails and rules. There is a Recapturing Civic Pride program going on in the Winslow ar- ea where you could win a $25 gift card from The Home Depot for September, and all you have to do is take a pho- to before and after where you have painted, landscaped or just plain de- cluttered; anything that improved the appearance of your home. Then you email your photo to Winslow Beautifi- cation Committee at beautification@ townofwinslow.com. There will be six winners to be chosen and September isn't too far away. The Brownstown part of Winslow, as you drive onto Brenton St. off of Main St., you should keep an eye open for cones at the middle of the block. There is a leak, and I guess it isn't fixed as of yet, so be careful as you drive in that area. The Old Curtis Funeral Home is now the Freedom and Fire Church, and Norm has met Jeff and Tommy Pow- ers this past week. Good people. Guess what! Yes, you have guessed it. Time to dim the lights on this week's ramblings. But keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and see all the wonders in your area. Stop for school buses and watch out for all our kids. As always, smile, wave and say Hi to every- one you see this week. REAL ESTATE TRANSFERS Marsha W. Shawhan and Jennifer J. Houchins con- vey to Doris A.
