Poplar Street, Petersburg Junior Noah Onyett fired a three-over-par nine-hole score of 39 to lead the Pike Central High School boys' golf team to a 179 -194 victory over host South Spencer on Monday, April 23 at The Rustic in Rockport. Junior Hayden Kabrick shot a 46, while junior Austin Holder and freshman Cutter Reed both had scores of 47 to round out the top four for the Chargers. Junior Jed Evans and sophomore Jaylon Mills shot 48 and 49, respectively. "The course was chal- lenging and so was the weather," Pike Central head coach Jarrod Gide- on said. "We finished the last couple holes in a pretty steady downpour." The Chargers, who improved to 12-1, played the match without senior Lincoln Vaughn, who was participating in the Tri-State Orthopaedic Varsity Pro-Am Shootout at the Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh. On Thursday, April 19, Vaughn shot a 38 as Pike Central defeated visiting North Knox 166 - 223 in a match played at the Prides Creek Golf Course. Holder (41), Onyett (42) and Mills (45) rounded out the top four scorers for the Chargers. The Pike Central High School girls' tennis team dropped a 4- 0 rain-shortened loss at South- ridge on Wednesday, April 18, and lost to visiting South Knox 4-1 on Thursday, April 19. Southridge 4, Pike Central 0 At No. 1 singles, Lady Char- gers senior Cass Conder lost to Lady Raiders senior Louisa Ni- no 6 -2, 6 -0. At No. 2 singles, Lady Char- gers sophomore Shelby Vaughn trailed Lady Raiders sopho- more Evie Sherer 6 -4, 3-1 when the match was suspended be- cause of rain. At No. 3 singles, Lady Char- gers junior Katie Spalding lost to Lady Raiders senior Nicole Eckert 6 -3, 6 -1. At No. 1 doubles, the Lady Chargers' team of junior Mer- edith Benson and sophomore Audrey Keepes lost to the La- dy Raiders' duo of senior Ken- zie Lubbehusen and sophomore Audra Hochgesang 6 -1, 6 -1. At No. 2 doubles, the Lady Chargers' team of senior Ja- dyn Ashby and junior Grace Smith lost to Lady Raiders se- niors Cora Meyer and Kathryn Wininger 6 -1, 6 -4. In junior varsity matches, the Lady Chargers' team of senior Gretchen McCrary and soph- omore Hannah Beane lost to Lady Raiders seniors Katlyn Brewer and Sam Lange 8 -1; and Lady Chargers sophomores Adair Kabrick and Chloe Roy trailed the Lady Raiders' team of sophomore Camille Fleming and freshman Corey Peters 5 -2 when the match was suspended because of rain. South Knox 4, Pike Central 1 At No. 1 singles, Lady Char- Eighth grader Wyatt Fra- sure won three individual events to lead the Pike Cen- tral Middle School boys' track and field team to a second-place finish in the Princeton Middle School Invitational on Saturday, April 21. Frasure placed first in the 100 -meter dash with a time of 12.52 seconds, first in the 200 -meter dash with a time of 26.03 seconds, and first in long jump with a sea- son-best leap of 17 feet, 4- 1/2 inches. Also placing first in an in- dividual event for the Char- gers was eighth grader Remington Gideon in shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 5 inches. Gideon also placed third in discus with a throw of 95 feet, 9 inches. Placing fourth in individ- ual events for the Chargers were seventh grader Xavier Shoultz in the 1,600 -meter run with a season-best time of 5:28.07, and eighth grad- er Gunnar Early in shot put with a season-best throw of 36 feet, 10 inches. Placing fifth in individu- al events for the Chargers were eighth grader Dane Gladish in the 1,600 -meter run with a season-best time of 5:28.66, and eighth grad- er Samuel Coleman in dis- cus with a throw of 87 feet, 6 inches. Seventh grader Peyton Howald finished eighth in the 110 -meter hurdles with a time of 20.17 sec - onds; eighth grader Dari- an Herrera finished 11th in the 200 -meter dash with a time of 30.01 seconds; and eighth grader Evan Conder finished 12th in the 110 -me- ter hurdles with a time of 20.77 seconds. In addition, the team of Shoultz, eighth grader Devin Carlisle and seventh graders Cole Parks and Nolan Nelson placed sec- ond in the 1,600 -meter re- lay with a season-best time of 4:28.78; and the team of Senior Taylor Deffendoll and juniors Alyssa Jenkins and Lillie Pancakes won one individual event each as the Pike Central High School girls' track and field team placed third in the Pike Central Invitational on Thurs- day, April 19. Deffendoll placed first in high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches; Jenkins placed first in discus with a throw of 91 feet, 1/2 inch; and Pancake placed first in pole vault with a leap of 7 feet, 6 inches. In addition, the team of senior Halley Powers and freshmen Jenna Meyer, Libby Stone and Lauren Young placed first in the 1,600 -meter relay with a time of 4:28.78. Placing second in individual events for the Lady Char- gers were Meyer in pole vault with a leap of 6 feet, 6 inches; and Young in the 300 -meter hurdles with a sea- son-best time of 52.93 seconds. Placing third in individual events for the Lady Char- gers was Powers in the 1,600 -meter run with a time of 6:10 ; and Stone in the 400 -meter dash with a time of 1:07.47, and in long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 11-1/2 inches. Placing fourth in individual events for the Lady Char- gers were Jenkins in shot put with a throw of 27 feet, 11-1/2 inches; and freshman Maddie Williams in high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 6 inches.
