Senior first baseman Demi Croak and sophomore rightfielder Lauren Vaughn both drove in two runs as the Lady Chargers improved to 4-4. Sophomore pitcher Alizé Padgett allowed one run – which was earned – on three hits while walking one and striking out four to earn the complete-game victory. In the junior varsity con- test, junior first baseman Hannah Carnahan had three doubles and a single in four at-bats, scored three runs and drove in three as Pike Central rolled to a 14-1 vic- tory over Wood Memorial. PCHS boys' track team places 7th in Southridge Invitational The Pike Central High School boys' track and field team placed seventh out of eight teams during the Southridge Invitation- al on Thursday, April 19. Senior Gavin Boyd was the Chargers' top finisher in an individual event, plac- ing third in the 100 -meter dash with a time of 11.64 seconds. In addition, freshman Colt Armstrong placed fifth in the 200 -meter dash with a time of 23.86 sec- onds, and tied for sixth in high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches. The team of freshmen Reece Ashley, Garrett Boyd, Ethan Huck and Si- mon McCrary placed third in the 400 -meter fresh- men relay with a time of 49.96 seconds; the team of Armstrong, freshman Ijaa Chambers, junior Adam Kirby and sophomore Sam Theising placed fourth in the 1,600 -meter relay team with a season-best time of 3:43.97; and the team of junior Christian Ben- son, sophomore A.J. Hill and freshmen Colson Dil- lard and Sam Jones placed sixth with a time of 9:49.1. Posting season-best per- formances but not placing were Benson in the 800 -me- ter run with a time of 2:19; Chambers in the 1,600 -me- ter run with a time of 4:49, and in the 800 -meter run with a time of 2:11; Hill in the 3,200 -meter run with a time of 11:56; Huck in the 200 -meter dash with a time of 25.61 seconds; ju- nior Andrew Krieg in shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 4 inches; freshman Ste- phen Krieg in shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 9 inches; and sophomore Nate Wool- ery in the 1,600 -meter run with a time of 4:50. As a team, Pike Cen- tral scored a total of 19.5 points, trailing Prince- ton (168 points), Heritage Hills (92), Forest Park (76), Northeast Dubois (66), North Posey (56.5) and Southridge (47). PCHS boys' track team places third in Northeast Dubois Freshman/Sophomore Invitational Sophomore Sam The- ising won two individu- al events and sophomore Tyler Kirby won another as the Pike Central High School boys' track and field team posted 38 personal or season-best performances to finish third in the North- east Dubois Freshman/ Sophomore Invitational on Tuesday, April 17. Theising placed first in the 110 -meter high hur- dles with a time of 18.34 seconds, and first in the 300 -meter intermediate hurdles with a person- al-best time of 44.83 sec- onds, while Kirby placed first in pole vault with a leap of 11 feet, 6 inches. In addition, Theising teamed up with freshmen Colt Armstrong, Ijaa Cham- bers and Ethan Huck to place first in the 1,600 -me- ter relay with a season-best time of 3:52.00. Placing second in indi- vidual events for the Char- gers were Armstrong in the 200 -meter dash with a per- sonal-record time of 24.16 seconds; and Kirby in the 100 -meter dash with a per- sonal-best time of 12.02 seconds. Placing third in individ- ual events for the Char- gers were Armstrong in high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches; Huck in long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 8 inches; and Nate Woolery in the 3,200 -meter run with a time of 10 :50.52. Placing fourth in indi- vidual events for the Char- gers were Chambers in the 1,600 -meter run with a per- sonal-best time of 4:59.30 ; sophomore Avery Dyer in shot put with a person- al-best throw of 33 feet, 8 - 1/2 inches; and freshman Stephen Krieg in discus with a personal-best throw of 94 feet, 7 inches. Placing fifth in individu- al events for the Chargers were Dyer in discus with a personal-best throw of 91 feet, 4 inches; and Kirby in high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 2 inches, tying North- east Dubois sophomore Eli Lueken.
