Email: schoolnews@pressdispatch.net DO YOU HAVE Several classrooms at W.E.S. participated in a read- ing contest during Spring Break. They read, record- ed the number of minutes, had a family member sign, and returned their reading log back to their teacher. The top three readers in each participating class re- ceived a prize. This group of students read for a total of 5,402 minutes! Above: All three kindergarten classes stand ready to sing for the an- nual Spring Program. Above: Self Defense Class was taught by Jana Corn. Corn explains that keeping yourself safe is a priority, and every women deserves to know the proper skills to defend herself if or when danger attacks. Right: Officer Chad McClellan spoke to the class about social media and explained how posting certain pictures can make you an easy targets for online predators who might want to cause harm. McClellan reminds the group to never give out personal information and if you receive unwanted solicitation you should report it immediately. Wednesday, May 2: Slop- py joe sandwich, sweet pota- to fries, baked beans and ap- plesauce. Friday, April 27: Fiesta pizza, chicken fillet on bun or chicken strips and roll; salsa, lettuce and toma- to, Santa Fe blend veggies, fresh veggies or choice of fruit. Monday, April 30 : Chick- en noodle and roll or pop- corn chicken and roll; mashed potatoes and gra- vy, green beans, fresh veg- gies or choice of fruit. Tuesday, May 1: Srira- cha chicken bites and roll or cheese quesadilla; crispy baked seasoned fries, broc- coli with cheese, fresh veg- gies or choice of fruit. Wednesday, May 2: Spa- ghetti and breadstick or tur- key burger on bun; sweet po- tato fries, seasoned green beans, fresh veggies or choice of fruit. Consumer Science Scrambled Eggs Mrs. Beatriz Cobo's sixth grade consumer science class fixed scrambled eggs in the Kitchen lab. Five stu- dents brought in fresh eggs from their raised chick- ens and other students donated pans to be able to cook the eggs. The students did fantastic, the scrambled eggs looked perfect and the taste was amazing. Watch out families, Mrs. Cobo is afraid you'll be eating many scrambled eggs in the following days. PCMS Women's Self Defense Class Pike Central Middle School held a women's self de- fense class on Wednesday April 18 as a fundraiser and to teach women multiple techniques to assist them in getting away from an attacker.
