Poplar Street, Petersburg Hard to believe but we have almost made it an entire week without some ill- ness knocking at our doors. We had weath- er fair enough to get a few projects done around the house. There are still lots to do but we did punch a hole in our to do list. It seems like the older I get the easier it is to become distracted so we make lists to at- tempt making order out of chaos. There is trouble with making these notes and that is remembering where you left the notes. Oh well I can imagine that we all have the same troubles and if we don't then we are truly blessed. This past Sunday evening we went to the Culpepper & Merriweather circus at Oak- land City. It seemed like there were ma- ny of the performers doing many different types of acts. That makes little difference because we watched an extremely talented group of performances that truly kept your attention. On the way home we were talk- ing about our favorites and to be honest it was all good so having a favorite was hard. I would highly recommend that if you get the chance to see this circus while they are in this area to do so. Sunday morning we did talk about temp- tation and we found that God does not tempt anyone but our own lusts and desires are the stimuli for our temptations. There are lots of people who will tell you that if you experience having bad things in your mind that you have already sinned but if you nev- er put life to your bad ideas you have used the good sense that God has given you. Stam In a few months, many of our finest young people are going to enter the most hostile place in America to Christianity. Sadly, these hostile places are our colleges and universi- ties. They will encounter a liberal mindset that makes it "politically incorrect" to be a Chris- tian. Many of our teens will leave family, friends, and their local church with a strong faith in God. A few years ago a Gallup Youth Survey, 95 percent believe in God. According to this survey, 91 percent of teens believe in heaven and 76 percent believe there is a hell. On many campuses today, gay and lesbi- an organizations are encouraged and subsi- dized while Christianity is discouraged and scorned by faculty and school officials. On one campus, they encourage gay faculty to serve as role models for students. It is sad to see anti-Christian forc- es on many campus- es dominating the ac- ademic departments and administrations. As a result of this an- ti-Christian environ- ment, many of Ameri- ca's choice young peo- ple who are raised in Christian homes will graduate as atheists or agnostics. Our young people deserve to know the truth. It is this liberal anti-Christian teach- ing that has caused our values to disappear and our families to disintegrate. When God is laughed at, unbelief without moral standards will enter the vacuum. The newspapers are filled with sensation- al news these days, but the divine extension of this present age of grace is the most sensa- tional news of all, yet most newspapers rare- ly, if ever, mention it. We are prone to take the blessings of our times too much for granted. We forget too eas- ily that for more than 1900 years the world has been ripe for God's judgment — ever since His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, was crucified and sent from this world a royal Exile. All through the Old Testament Psalms and prophets it is clear that the world's rejection of Christ was to be visited with awful judgment. The Second Psalm, describing the world's re- jection of "the Lord and His Anointed," goes on to say: "He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall He speak unto them in His wrath and vex them in His sore displeasure." In Psalm 110 :1, too, we have the Father saying to His rejected Son: "Sit Thou at My right hand, until I make Thine enemies Thy footstool." Yet, when all seemed ready for the divine judgment to fall, God interrupted the prophet- ic program and saved Saul of Tarsus, the "chief of sinners," the leader of the world's rebellion against Christ. More: He appointed this Saul, as the Apostle Paul, to proclaim "the gospel of the grace of God" (Acts 20 :24), the wonder- ful news that because Christ suffered, the Just for the unjust, at Calvary, any sinner may be saved by grace through faith, apart from reli- gious or other works. "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Rom. 6:23). And therefore: "To him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness" (Rom. 4:5). Judgment will come, but thank God, He has in grace delayed it until now. "Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation" (II Cor. 6:2). Continued on page 2 PAID FOR BY THE COMMITTEE TO ELECT JOHNSON FOR SHERIFF, JEREMY BRITTON, TREASURER It also says in God's word that we should be rejoicing about being tempted be- cause if you aren't tempt- ed then the devil feels sure of your soul that he doesn't have to even seduce you with his evil. Last Wednesday morning several volunteers installed about 70 feet of handrails on the back dock of Some- body's Place. You know it looked pretty good so the old guys still have the abili- ty and the will to get some- thing done. If anybody would happen to drive up and hear this bunch they would think that we are all mad at one another be- cause there is always good natured bantering going on. There is usually on- ly one food truck to be un- loaded each Monday morn- ing around 10 :30 with may- be one week having an ex- tra or so to be unloaded. If you feel like you would like to help just show up and pitch in. There are some re- ally nice guys volunteering each week. Hope to see you. Well as usual be a bless- ing to someone and take in as many blessings as you can, only be thankful for them. RIVER OF LIFE 342 E. CR 300 N. "Through wisdom a house is built, and by understand- ing it is established" (Prov- erbs 24:3). The family is the most important institution in the world. It was God's idea in the first place. It was not the invention of sociologists or economics or government bureaucrats who decided it would make society operate more smoothly. Families ex- isted before cities and gov- ernments, before written language, nations, temples and churches. In the home, character and integrity are formed, values are made clear and goals are set. These last a lifetime. And if they aren't formed correctly, that too will result in patterns—bad patterns—that last a life time if God doesn't inter- fere. Today, Satan is attack- ing the family as never be- fore. But where are our de- fenses against such attacks? If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. Your presence will be deeply ap- preciated and I am sure you will enjoy the blessings of God. Jerry "Tuffy" Blackwell, Pastor Sharon Kendall, Reporter 1820 S. Co Rd. 800 S. Pancake back from vaca- tion and knee surgery. His message was from Job 1:20 - 22 and focused on the trials and tribulations of God's ser- vant. The devil was to do ev- erything but kill him, yet Job stayed steadfast. Even though his close friends and wife told him to curse God, he remained God's servant. Job was tested in every way. He wasn't sure why. There are many things about life on this earth we don't under- stand. We need to trust God. Always look to Him. April 25 will be Adminis- trative Assistant Day. There will be a called business meeting follow-
