C-2 Church Wednesday, November 22, 2017 The Press-Dispatch Baptist Continued in next column Continued in next column "Kittens are wide-eyed, soft and sweet. With nee- dles in their jaws and feet"— Pam Brown. This week, PAWS is featuring a lighting fast young kitten named Zip- py, who can often be seen creeping under the desks, or sunning herself on the window ledge in the office at PAWS. She is a remark- ably beautiful feline and looks much like a Sokoke, which is a natural breed of domestic cat standardized in the late 1970s. Zippy has lustrous fur with a mottled, blotched coat pattern of deep char- coal and gray, is very ac- tive, enjoys climbing and is very amused by interactive cat toys. She is a bit shy, but given her own home and human to look after her, she is sure to bond and become a loyal companion. You must see this attrac- tive doll baby. To adopt her, call 812-354-9894. CHURCH (Augusta) Broadway Street Winslow Pastor 812-582-0756 Sunday morning wor- ship at 10 :15 a.m., chil- dren's Sunday school dur- ing morning service; Cel- ebrate Recovery at 6 p.m. at the Gathering Place in Winslow; Wednesday night Bible study and youth at 6:30 p.m.; Second Wednes- day of the month business meeting at 6:30 p.m. There will be no Wednesday evening Bible study this week, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. December 3 we will be having our Thanksgiv- ing/Christmas dinner af- ter morning worship. "Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful" (Colossians 4:2). Prayer isn't just ask- ing God for something we want. Prayer should include confession of sin and praise to God for who He is and what He has do- ne for us. But prayer should have an additional element, and that is Thanksgiving. Repeatedly the Bible com- mands us to give thanks. The Psalmist said, "Oh, give thanks to the Lord for He is good. For His mercy endures forever" (Psalms 107:1). Jesus only distributed the bread He had mirac- ulously provided for the crowds after "He had given thanks" (Matthew 15:36). At the Last Supper with His disciples, before fac- ing the horror of the Cross, Jesus "gave thanks" (Luke 22:17,19). It's easy to be thankful when God blesses us with something good—swift re- covery from an illness, for example, or an advance- ment at work. But the Bi- ble says we should "give thanks in all circumstanc- es, for this is God's will for us in Christ Jesus" (I Thes- salonians 5:18).Thankful- ness drives away a sour or prideful spirit. We should make it part of our prayers every day. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. I'm sure you will leave feel- ing blessed. May God bless each and every one. Jerry "Tuffy" Blackwell, Pastor Sharon Kendall, Report- er NEW LIBERTY G.B. CHURCH (Coe) 1820 S. Co Rd. 800 S. Spend it with family and friends and thank God for the opportuni- ty to spend another year to- gether. November 26 will be As- sistant Teacher and Building Fund Sunday. We will be hav- ing a Church Council meet- ing at Ivan's home at 6 p.m. as well. Get ready for December. It will be a fun ride. I am grateful to all who have been praying for me during my absence and to all of those who took the time to think of me. Our Mission Statement: Loving the 99, always look- ing for the one. Gary Pancake, Pastor Ivan Mason, Reporter PLEASANT RIDGE G.B. CHURCH 1738 E. Co. Rd. 75 N. Petersburg Pastor 812-789-2348 Sunday morning service 10 :30 a.m. Everyone is al- ways welcome. "Offer unto God thanks- giving; and pay thy vows unto the most high" (Psalm 50 :14 K JV ). God didn't promise days without pain. Laughter with- out sorrow or sun without rain. But God did promise strength for the day, com- fort for the tears and a light for the way and all who be- lieve in His kingdom of love, He answers their faith with peace from above. "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thank- ful unto him, and bless his name" (Psalm 100 :4). "Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving" (Colossians 4:2 K JV ). Remember to pray for those on the prayer list and also remember "Jesus is a way maker. He can make a way when you don't see a way." Have a safe week. Dale Frederick, Pastor Lois K. During this season, we all reflect back on the year and remember that for which we are thankful. As Christians, we have so much for which to be thankful. Not only for Jesus dying on the cross but for mercy, grace and under- standing that we are given by Jesus doing so. No mat- ter what problems we have or what trials may come our way, these are things that we need to thank God for in everything we see and do. Happy Thanksgiving. We welcome you to all services. Denny Wiscaver, Pastor Pam Nutter, Reporter LIVING FAITH CHURCH INTERNATIONAL 718 E. Main Street, Petersburg Phone: 812-809-4544 Sunday services are at 10 a.m. and youth service at 6 p.m. The Bible is a brutally honest book. It contains sto- ries of liars, murderers, and adulterers; and these are the good guys. If we read the Bi- ble looking only for positive role models, we'll be quick- ly disappointed. But if we are honest with ourselves and confess our own faults, we will find in Scripture, par- ticularly in the First Testa- ment, that we have much in common with many bro- ken saints of the past. But we must not stay broken. We must follow their path to transformation through repentance and faith. Re- pentance means a change of heart, a change of mind, and ultimately a change of how we live. God's grace comes to us and enables us to turn away from sin and to turn back to Him. • Church work day on Sat- urday, Dec. 2 at 9 a.m. We will also be decorating for Christmas and have a car- ry-in soup lunch. • Out of the Box Ladies Ministry annual Christmas party on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. Bring an inex- pensive wrapped ornament for the gift game and an ap- petizer or dessert to share.
