"Tanner and Jacob were a big part of our success, and the reason our plays had 15 wins and a conference title this year," Chad Western said. "They are great with the players and strategy as well." "They always say you get that feeling when you just know," Hendrixson add- ed. "And I just knew what I wanted." Hendrixson, a 6 -foot for- ward, averaged 14.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game as a junior, when she was named to the Pocket Ath- letic Conference's All-Con- ference Team. Hendrix- son, who also received All- PAC honorable mention as a sophomore, entered the 2017-18 season with a total of 813 career points. Hendrixson has also played A AU basketball for the Indiana Elite SWISH since eighth grade. "Her maturity on and off the court has been awe- some," said Indiana Elite SWISH coach Michael Ow- en, who was present for Hen- drixson's signing. "She has been totally focused and put in the time. That's what it takes to play at the next lev- el, putting in the time and the effort and the dedica- tion." "She's put forth the ef- fort to not only make all the practices during our travel season, but during and out- side of travel season, she pretty religiously, the last three years, comes down and trains two hours at least once a week," Owens contin- ued. "And every week, we're working on stuff that either she feels like she needs to work on or I feel she needs to work on, one or the other. So, between the two of us, we've gotten there." Owen said that Hendrix- son's greatest strength was her communication skills. "She's second to none," Owen said. "When she's not in the game, she is our number one cheerleader and supporting the other kids on the team. It doesn't matter whether she's in the game or whether she's not in the game – she's doing every- thing she can to help her teammates." Owen described Hen- drixson as "extraordinarily strong and athletic." "The past two years on my travel team, we've been very, very successful not only in the state of Indiana, but na- tionally," Owen said. "The year before last, we won the Adidas national tourna- ment and she was a big part of that." "I've told every college coach that was pursuing her that she, by far, was my most versatile player," Owen added. "She could play the three, the four or the five. It didn't matter what a situ- ation called for. She was the one who would step up her play and get the job done." Hendrixson said that playing A AU basketball has been a big help in develop- ing her basketball skills. "It's helped tremendous- ly, just being able to play against a different level of competition, where every- one is just on the same level as you and it's a battle every time you step on the floor," Hendrixson said. "You've got to be ready to go or you're going to be walked all over. So it's made me a stron- ger player, definitely, and a more confident player." "My teammates were a huge part of that, because I had great teammates sur- rounding me and they were always there to pick me up when I was down," Hendrix- son added. "It was great." Hendrixson was also joined at the signing cere- mony – which was held in the school's distance learn- ing classroom – by her par- ents, Melissa Hendrixson of Huntingburg, and Scott Hendrixson, of Petersburg, her sisters, Shelby and Em- ma, and her nine-month- old niece, Sawyer Gabhart, along with many of her Lady Charger teammates, head coach Kyle McCutchan and PCHS principal Brian Hol- land. "It's pretty emotional, to be honest with you," Owen said of Hendrixson's sign- ing with Maryville Universi- ty. "She's just like one of my kids. I've been with her long enough, I feel like I've raised her. So it's an extraordinari- ly emotional day for me." "I'm glad that all of her family could be here for her today," Owen added. "That's a big thing for her. She's big on family. And I'm just so proud of her. I'm real happy for her." Maryville University, a NCA A Division II school that competes in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, was 13-14 last season under first-year coach Collin La- nam. This season, the Saints are currently 3-1. Sophomore Blake Hen- son went 1-0 with one win by forfeit at 132, while sophomore Jager Gladish went 1-2 at 145 with one win by forfeit and 0 -1 at 152. "It was a good start," said Hewig, whose team will next compete in the Jor- dan Hill Classic at Evans- ville Reitz on Saturday, Dec. 2. "We have to stay very grounded because our next meet is the Reitz Hill Classic, where there will be very stout competition." "I never expected to have a day like we did, but what I was most happy about was our physicali- ty," Hewig added. "We have been preaching for the last three weeks to make sure that, win or lose, we are so 'mean' on the mat that no one wants to wrestle us again. While we are not there yet, we started things off how we needed to get to that position. I was super proud of many of our kids." DUALS Continued from page 1 PCHS BOYS' BASKETBALL SCRIMMAGE VS.
