Give us a call: 812-354-8500 Sullivan leads PCMS 8th grade girls' basketball team past South Spencer Kya Sullivan scored a game-high seven points as the Pike Central Middle School eighth grade girls' basketball team held off visit- ing South Spencer for a 15 -12 victory on Thursday, Nov. 16. Neither team scored in the first quarter and the game went into halftime tied at 4-4 before the Lady Chargers – sparked by four points by Sul- livan and one point by Sophie Carnahan – outscored South Spencer 5 -4 in the third peri- od to take a 9 -8 lead. "South Spencer was in a two-three zone and packed it down to where we could not drive or hit the cutters in our offense," Pike Central head coach Eric Knight said. "We had to settle most the game with shooting from the out- side. You can tell from the score that we were not hit- ting them." In the fourth quarter, how- ever, a three-pointer by Sulli- van, a basket by Alli Holder and a free throw by Carnahan boosted the Lady Chargers to a three-point win. "Kya Sullivan played really well the second half, trying to drive or penetrate into open holes in the defense," Knight said. "It was another sloppy, rough game, and the girls did what they do best and never gave up and kept fighting and battling to get the win." Scoring two points each for Pike Central – which im- proved to 3-2 – were Carnah- an, Holder, Mallory Hunt and Albany Ashley. "Kya Leighty and Al- li Holder both had to come out of the game with inju- ries, but both girls should be back and ready by the next game," Knight said. "Albany Ashley came off the bench and played really well on de- fense and also got some big rebounds for us. She looked to attack and got to the line." A fter an eighth grade game scheduled for Monday, Nov. 20, at Washington Cath- olic, was cancelled, the Lady Chargers played at Haub- stadt on Tuesday, Nov. 21. They will return to action on Monday, Nov. 27, when Pike Central will host Holy Trinity at the Old Petersburg Gym, before traveling to North Knox on Thursday, Nov. 30.
