In researching this issue over the past few years, I've learned a few things: I prefer the peatier Macallan 18 to the 15 when it comes to Scotch; ring gauge actually makes a difference in cigars; I'm terrible at pool but can hold my own at the poker table; and I enjoy shooting out of the Tip O'Neill Tunnel in an Audi R8 at top speed as much as I love barely being able to tell when the Bentley Continental GT hits 100, because the car is just that comfortable. I know I'm not the only one who waxes rhapsodic over luxury vehicles. At our Newport party this summer, everyone had fun taking photos and trying out the Mercedes-Benzes on view, and on Fashion's Night Out, attendees got a close-up of 80 of Herb Chambers's beautiful cars lining Newbury Street, in what is now becoming a tradition. That night has become a true celebra- tion of fashion in Boston with its Mardi Gras-like energy, bands playing, and DJs spinning on the street and in stores. In late September the wives of many Red Sox sluggers strutted their stuff at Fenway to the Runway, hosted by Saks Fifth Avenue. Saks certainly knows how to do a runway show, as we saw with our first full-blown fashion show, held at the Revere Hotel. Looks in supple leathers and warm oxbloods from top designers made us welcome the cool days ahead. We can't thank you all enough for attending and making the audience as fashionable as the runway models. JANICE O'LEARY 22 BOSTONCOMMON-MAGAZINE.COM
