While beautifully crafted sports cars are an absolute fascination— whether you're in the driver's seat or just idling beside one in traffic on the Southeast Expressway—so, too, are timepieces. Both are high-precision machines meant for ultimate use and pleasure. Now these two high-tech worlds meld together in an entirely new breed of wristwatches for the fast lane. COOL CARS W hen you look at the clock in a Bentley, you'll notice it was created by one of the world's top watchmakers: Switzerland-based Breitling. That partnership has become legendary, and other brands are building timepieces in the tradition of the world's high-speed cars. Bulgari recently joined forces with Maserati and now unveils the 45mm steel Octo Maserati ($32,100). It houses an automatic winding movement with jump hours, retrograde minutes, and date, and a chronograph with retrograde hours and minute counters. From David Yurman, this new Revolution Shelby 1000 ($8,600) automatic chronograph is crafted in black PVD with rubber side insets and pays homage to car designer and racer Carroll Shelby and his namesake auto. With a galvanic, multilayer dial with vertical racing stripes and applied Shelby Cobra insignia, the watch is created in a limited edition of 150 numbered pieces, available starting in November.
