"What does that even look like? " a mom asked. "My son says his babies will look like centaurs, but with bison bodies instead of horse. They will have bi- son tufts of hair and horns on their human heads. And they will be adorable! " I said it with the convic- tion of a proud grandma. And I felt it, too. I've never been much of a wallflower anyhow. The moms could now tell I'm not one of them. "Maybe your son is too young to understand love," one said, trying to exit the conversation. "I disagree," I said. "He understands that first and foremost, it's supposed to be magical." Like Katiedid Langrock on Facebook, at www.facebook. com/katiedidhumor. There was one postcard sent in this week at Sweets Column, Winslow, Ind. 47598. Postcard # 658 has a sce- nic view of a blue sky, an is- land in the bay with lots of sail boats. On the hillsides are buildings with cars parked and a cable car that is climbing the steep Hyde Street hill in San Francis- co, Calif. On the back it reads: "Ju- lie Green, from Indianapo- lis, Ind." Thanks, Julie, for postcard # 658 of San Fran- cisco and their famous ca- ble cars that travel up and down the Hyde Street hill. It's been a long time since we have heard from you and we wish you well. Winslow Patoka River is high, but not overflowing. With the rain we will soon have this weekend, it may rise a little bit, depending on how much rain we get with the storms. As I'm writing we are having some strong winds from the south and the temps have been in the middle to high 70s with a nighttime temp of 50's. Most days you don't need a jacket until midnight. We have a yard of green grass, but we al- so have patch- es of purple flow- ers and patch- es of white flow- ers that will stay around for a few more weeks. The tulip trees are almost in full bloom. The daffo- dils are gorgeous with the many col- ors of yellow, white and yel- low, white and orange, sol- id orange; and the tulips of all red look nice in the flow- ering patches. I believe my Black-eyed Susans are about to grow taller or I'm watch- ing a weed grow. I can't wait till the temps at night rise enough to set the house plants outside so they can get some fresh air and sunshine under a shade tree. A lot of neighbors have started mowing their lawns, and that means that the Eas- ter Bunny has no place to hide its eggs for the kid- dies to find. Kids, as you go hunting for those eggs, please have a lot of fun and don't eat up your candy in one day. Save some for the whole week. The softball games at the little league parks are about to begin in all of Pike Coun- ty, so have fun. It doesn't matter if you win or lose, but have fun with your friends. As you read in the paper last week, Winslow had a water leak that took a lot of stars to fix the problem. Many stars gave out water to the many citizens here in Winslow, and the boil order was in effect until Wednes- day. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who had a hand in working on, delivering, getting the word out and other water-re- lated results for the Winslow town of stars. You all made us feel so good to know how much our county of stars helped to make our lives bet- ter in the water crisis. Winslow Fire Department has installed some smoke alarms in many houses, but if you are still in need of one, then please contact the Winslow Fire Department, Jason Bottoms. Do you have numbers posted on your house so that the fire department or EMS could easily find your residence? Make sure they are not just posted on your mailbox. The Spurgeon Fire De- partment is looking for more volunteers in their ar- ea who would like to join the fire group of men and wom- en to serve the citizens, and if you would like to be a part of this, contact Donnie Pan- cake or come to the meet- ing on the last Sunday of the month at 2 p.m. The Winslow Lions Club is also looking for some stars to join our fine group who serves our community in many events throughout the year. You are welcome to come to our first or third Thursday meetings at 7 p.m. at the Community Center and be my guest. Well it's time to dim the lights on this week's ram- blings. Keep an eye on fam- ily and friends; slow down and see all of the wonders in your area. Smile, wave and say Hi to everyone you see this week. • Home • Farm • auto • Business • HealtH • liFe Working Together Since 1864 1405 Main Street • Ferdinand, Indiana www.ferdinandfarmersinsurance.com 812.367.1413 • 888.440.1413 For your complete insurance needs, contact the Ferdinand Farmers Insurance Group.
