Managing Concerns About Falls program set to start April 30 at Amber Manor Have you turned down a chance to go out with fam- ily or friends because you were concerned about fall- ing? Have you cut down on a favorite activity because you might fall? If so, A Mat- ter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls is a program for you. Fear of falling can be just as dangerous as falling it- self. People who develop this fear often limit their ac- tivities, which can result in severe physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. Many older adults also experience in- creased isolation and de- pression when they limit their interactions with fam- ily and friends. A Matter of Balance can help people im- prove their quality of life and remain independent. A Matter of Balance is de- signed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Participants learn to set re- alistic goals to increase ac- tivity, change their environ- ment to reduce fall risk fac- tors, and learn simple exer- cises to increase strength and balance. Generations is partnering with Amber Manor to offer A Matter of Balance: Man- aging Concerns About Falls. This program will begin April 30 and will continue each Tuesday through June 18. Classes will be at Amber Manor, 801 E. Illinois St., Pe- tersburg. This eight week program is offered free of charge, but pre-registra- tion is required. Each class is limited to 15 participants. A workbook is provided and refreshments are served. To register, contact Joy Hobson-Smith at 812-385 - 6435. For more information about A Matter of Balance, or if your agency or busi- ness is interested in host- ing a workshop, contact Al- ma Kramer at 812-888 -4527 or akramer@vinu.edu. Generations is a program of Vincennes University's Community Services Divi- sion.
