Equipment Company HWY 161, HOLLAND 812-536-3486 In-service training workshop using native warm-season grasses in a grazing system A training workshop using native warm-season grasses in a grazing sys- tem will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on June 20 at the Southern Indiana Purdue Agricultural Center, 11371 East Purdue Farm Road, Dubois. Participants will learn the latest research supported methods for reliable native forage establishment and grazing management to maintain grass vigor and animal performance through the summer. This training is being presented by The Center for Native Grasslands Management (http://nativegrasses. utk.edu/) and the National Bobwhite Conser vation Initiative through a grant provided by Quail Forever and the Natural Resources Conser vation Ser vice in support of the Working Lands For Wildlife Bobwhite in Grasslands project. Pond Management Workshop set for April 29 By David Ackley 4-H Youth Development, Ag and Natural Resources Educator Do you have a pond that is in need of some care? Are you looking to learn more about your pond as a whole? Do you use chemicals on your pond? Do you have unidentified weeds in your pond? The Pike County Extension office will be hosting a Pond Management Workshop on April 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. EDT at Hornady Park. The workshop will take place at the Shelter house #3 located next to the lake. Weather pending, if inclement weather the workshop will take place in the 4-H Building. The workshop will cover pond chemicals, pond applications, aquatic vegetation management, fish stocking rates, pond wildlife management, aera- tion systems and more. There will be a weed identification portion during the workshop. If you have any weeds in your pond that you would like to have identified please bring them along to the workshop! Pike County Extension looks for- ward to seeing you at the workshop and helping with your Pond Manage- ment. Vanderburgh County Pond Workshop Do you have problems with your pond or lake? This pond work- shop on Wednesday, May 22 can help! Registration will begin at 8 a.m. with the workshop running from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Vanderburgh County Fairgrounds Banquet Hall, 201 E. Boonville-New Harmony Road, Evansville. Speaker Mike Wathen, Wathen Environmental, LLC, will discuss site evaluation and construction, detention ponds, animal and rodent impacts, fish selection, stocking rates, problem areas, and bank stabilization. Speaker Jarred Keller, Aquatic Control, will speak about mainte- nance and chemical treatments, and invasive plants. The cost is $10 per person which includes lunch and handouts.
