The team win puts the Lady Charger tennis team at 6 -2 for the season and undefeated at 3-0 in confer- ence action. Lady Charger junior Audrey Keep- es, senior Meredith Benson and junior Shelby Vaughn won their respective singles matches, and Chloe Roy and Adair Kabrick won their number two doubles match 6 -1, 6 -4. Lady Charger seniors Kirsten Jansen and Grace Smith fell to Lady Rangers Molly Lusk and Kaylee Uebelhor 6 -1, 6 -3 in the number one doubles match. Audrey Keepes notched a 6 -1, 6 -1 win over Lady Ranger Brook Haug at number one singles. Meredith Benson added a 6 -1, 6 -2 win over Lady Rang- Jenkins wins discus Alyssa Jenkins was the top thrower in the discus event at Thursday's Dubois-Pike In- vitational at Jasper. She was the clear win- ner with a toss of 93'5", with teammate Er- ika Vinnedge placing third with a distance of 85'3". Vinnedge was less than two feet out of second place in the event. Jenkins also took a second in the shot put, taping 29'10". The Lady Chargers finished third with 45 points and had one first, two seconds, four thirds and three fourths in the invite. The third second place finish for the Lady Chargers was Lauren Young clocking 18.23 in the 100 -meter high hurdles. Kya Leighty was third in both the 1600 -meter run and the 400 -meter. Leighty clocked 1:08.95 in the 400, just a little more than two seconds out of second. She ran a 5:50.27 for third place in the 1600. Lauren Young, Morgan Anderson, Jade Kamman and Jayln Nelson teamed up for third place in the 4x100 relay with a tie of 56.57, less than a second out of second place. Lauren Young, Jenna Meyer, Libby Stone and Kya Leighty combined for a 4:38.04 time in the 4x400 relay, taking third place. Nelson and Leighty both cleared 4'6" in the high jump, taking fourth and fifth re- spectively. The team of Quinlan Teague, Meyer, Charlotte Dudenhoeffer and Stone ran an 11:43.35 to fourth in the 4x800 relay. Young took fifth in the 300 low hurdles with a time of 53 seconds, and Libby Stone was fifth in the 800 run with a time of 2:47.51. Jasper won the Dubois-Pike Invitation- al with 128 points, followed by Forest Park with 114, Pike Central with 45 and NE Du- bois at 38. Senior Braxton Rice was swinging the potent bat for Pike Central in the 21-3 win over Evansville Bosse this past Saturday, and he did it again for the Chargers with a fifth-inning triple that scored two runs to assist in a 7-4 Charger win and the two-game sweep. Rice was three of four, notched four RBIs and scored twice in the 21-3 win that started with 10 Pike Central runs in the very first inning. The senior dou- bled in that first go-round, driving in two runs in what became a 10 -run di- saster for the Bulldogs. Charger se- nior Troy Rickard boosted the tally with a pair of doubles and three RBIs. Seniors Joey Church, Eli Coleman and Connor O'Neal also swatted doubles in the Charger cause. Senior Race Britton worked the first four innings, allowing just two hits and two earned runs, while walking one and striking out five. Harley May stepped in for the fifth, also allowing two hits and one run, but striking out two and walking one. The Chargers compiled 10 runs in the first, five in the second, four in the third and two in the fourth in the 21-3 win. Seven Chargers collected 16 RBIs, including Rice (4), Church (3), Rick- ard (3), Coleman (2), O'Neal (2) and seniors Brennon Benton (1) and Kyle Williams (1). The Bulldogs pitched Eli Burkart, Daveson Outlaw, Devon Wallace and Joseph Mcelroy, walking eight, secur- ing one strikeout and allowing a dozen hits. Bulldog Chas Schum was two for three, with one RBI that accounted for half of Bosse's hit production. CHARGERS TAME BULLDOGS 7-4 The Bulldogs got off to a much better start in their 7-4 loss when Sheldon Clay tripled in the bottom of the first. Char- ger Brennon Benton hit a sacrifice fly to score one run for the Chargers pri- or to the Bulldogs taking a 4-1 advan- tage in the first. The Chargers added a run in the second and then in the fourth, before overcoming the 4-3 deficit with Rice's fifth-inning, two-run triple. The win came for the Chargers, trailing by as much as three runs at the start. Senior Troy Richard earned the win, going five innings, while allowing three hits, four unearned runs and striking out five. The Charger defense held the Bull- dog base runners, while Charger base runners, Connor O'Neal (2), Race Brit- ton, Eli Coleman and Braxton Rice, ad- vanced. Sheldon Clay accounted for three RBIs on that first inning triple and then also scored to get his team up 4-1. The Chargers tallied three hits and five runs against Nicholas Taylor through four in- nings, and then added one hit and two earned runs when Eli Burkhart came in to relieve Taylor. See SECOND on 2 See SCORE on 2 See WIN on 2 Church goes distance in 7-2 win over North Daviess The visiting North Daviess Cougars came away with a 7-2 loss at Pike Cen- tral on Tuesday after being down by just one run going into the bottom of the sixth. A four-run inning by the Char- gers resulted when senior Braxton Rice walked, followed by a Brennon Benton single and then a Cougar fielding error off Troy Rickard's bat. Senior Joey Church went six innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs, while issuing no walks and striking out six Cougar batters. Church threw 86 pitches, including 58 strikes, and hit one batter and committed one wild pitch.
