The Press-Dispatch Pike County Planter SWCD Newsletter Quarter 2, 2019 D- 3 1220 Willow St., Vincennes • 812-882-2507/812-882-0210 • Winter Hours: Monday-Friday 8-4 Imaginative design and engineering make BROCK ® bins superior performers Whether your on-farm storage consists of a couple of bins with an auger or a whole row of bins with an integrated loading and unloading system, BROCK ® bins are the right choice for the job. Grain bin foundations are designed to secure the bins against 90 mph (145 kph) winds, even when empty. The bin anchor system supplies a strong, load bearing connection to the foun- dation. This design, combined with the foundation sealant, helps to provide a weather-tight seal. These are just a couple of ways BROCK ® bins are DIFFERENT BY DESIGN™ to offer the security of long-term storage. The SWCD has some exciting news to share. Through a partnership between the Daviess, Dubois, Mar- tin and Pike County Soil & Water Conser vation District's (SWCD), a state funded IDEM 319 Nonpoint Source Management grant has been secured and will target a critical area within the Lower East Fork White (LEF White) River Water- shed. Pike County SWCD stepped up to the plate and is the lead on this grant project. After consider- ation, the SWCD hired Julie Loehr to act as Watershed Coordinator for the LEF White 319 grant. Julie will be tasked with completing multiple actions and goals through the three-year life cycle of the grant. One of the first tasks is to establish a Steering Committee and draft a watershed management plan. Once a watershed management plan is written at which time a critical area will be determined, over $161,000 in funding will be available from this grant for cost share on agricultural and urban conser vation practices that aim to improve water quality in the LEF White River. This is where you as a LEF White River Watershed landowner comes in. The SWCD partnership will be hosting a Kick-Off Meeting to talk about details of the grant and seek your input on writing the watershed management plan. The meeting will take place on Monday, May 6 at 6 p.m. eastern time at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hayesville, Ind. (556 W Hayesville Rd., Jasper, Ind., is the mapquest address). This meeting is free to attend and will provide free food and drinks too. RSVPs are appreciated and can be made by calling the Pike County SWCD at 812-354-6120 ex.3 or Julie Loehr, LEF White Watershed Coor - dinator at 812-779-7924. Questions and/or special accommodations can be made by calling the SWCD office.
