Insert Page 2 December 14, 2012 Enterprise Coaches: Mike Haworth, Jim Deaver Colors: Black, Gold City: Redding, CA Mascot: Hornets The Enterprise Hornets are coming into this Holiday Class Tournament after losing a thriller to Lake Oswego 69-61. The Hornets return every player from last year including Kaelan Crisosto, junior, who was pulled up to varsity as a freshman. Crisosto was selected to the Northern section's AllSection team last year. Also joining the team this year is senior point guard, Jordan Spaschak. Spaschak was sidelined last year due to an ACL injury. The hornets are 7-0 heading into the classic and are fresh off tournament wins in The Harlan Carter Tournament in Redding and the Granada Tournament. Andrew Fitzhugh. Crisosto and Spaschak are all averaging 16 points per game this year. Helix Coaches: John Singer, Andy Merideth, Joe Hernandez Colors: Green, Grey, Black, White City: La Mesa, CA Mascot: Scottish Terrier The Helix Highlanders are coming off a 2012 Grossmont league championship and C.IF. semifinalists with key returning players Titus Young, Romario Wilson, Kaelen Mitchell, and Will Mildenhall. Young has been on varsity since he was a freshman. Young deals with most of the ball handling. The Highlanders bring defensive skills to the table this year, with strong team and individual defense. Helix wants to play tough defense and turn their defense into their offense. Helix wants to compete for a league championship and C.I.F championship this year. • • • • Profiles writen by: Mitch Fox Garret Sandow Rebecca Blanchard Ryan Fisher Lake Oswego Coaches: Mark Shoft, Gene Schmidt, Chris Dudley, Mustoffa Hoff Colors: Navy, White City: Lake Oswego, OR Mascot: Lakers The Lake Oswego Lakers are coming off a Co League Championship and placed 2nd in Oregon last year. With eight seniors who have all played at least two years on varsity the coach says they are very experienced. Some of the key players are Calvin Hermanson, Connor Griffin, and Christion Mcdonald. Last year Calvin was named the player of the year in the state of Oregon. This year they want to win their league and become State Champions. El Camino Coach: Ray Johnson, Todd Roerig, Phil Arvidson Colors: Brown, Gold City: Oceanside, CA Mascot: Wildcats The El Camino Wildcats are very young but according the coach also very "deep" in players. Last year they finished with a 23-8 record and were C.I.F. semi-finalists. One of there key players is Immani Sobers, a senior who was 1st team all league last year. This year coach Ray Johnson says they could win the Section Championship, it just depends on how well the young players develop. Franklin Coach: Jesse Formaker, Martin Mannie, Ricky Franklin Colors: Purple, White, Black City: Elk Grove, CA Mascot: Wildcats Franklin High school has had a lot of recent success in their league. The Wildcats have won their league the last 4 years and went 22-6 in 2011-12. The wildcats made it to the second round of playoffs last year. The school is making their first appearance in the Holiday Classic. The team is only returning four players from last year. They are being led by three seniors: Victor Rustin, Dionte Young, and Pleasant South Valley Medford Coaches: Tim Keating, Damon Whittaker, Jay Marchant Colors: Navy Blue, Columbia Blue, White City: Chico, CA Mascot: Vikings The Vikings return to the Holiday Classic this year with a senior led team. The Vikings are led by senior point guard and scoring leader, Blake Marchant. Marchant is averaging 11 points per game and has the second most three pointers on the team. Right behind Marchant is senior power forward, Zach Eldredge Eldredge is averaging 11 points per game as well. Marchant is also the leading rebounder on the team averaging seven boards per game. The Vikings took home third place honors at the Harlan Carter tournament. The team is 6-2 on the season. Coach: Dennis Murphy Colors: Royal Blue, Silver City: Medford, OR Mascot: Panther The South Medford basketball team went 10-5 in their league last year and went 15-11 in their overall standings. The team is coached by Dennis Murphy who has had a tradition of winning in the state of oregon. The team made it to the final 8 (quarter finals) of Oregon's state tournament last year Their probable starters for this year are Mike Brassel 5'8" playing at Point Guard, Sosa Havird 6'3" at Wing, Sean Pearson 6'2" at Wing, Tevyn Mercer 6'4" at Post, and Kevin Thigbeauu 6'2" at Post. The team has had a long history of successes earning eight conference titles in the last nine years, they're more experienced than last year, will press a lot and play with more uptempo even with a lack of height. They expect to compete for a league title and make it back to the final four Did You Know? -RBHS former teacher Dwight Evans produced every Holiday Classic program ever made up until last year. He is missed dearly by everyone in the RBHS community and more. -San francisco 49er quarterback Alex Smith is a graduate of Helix High School. He did not play basketball for Helix because Coach Singer refused to run the spread offense. -Boys' assistant coach Andy Redfield and head coach Twitchell both had a full head of hair when they started coaching Red Bluff Coaches: Stan Twitchell, Andy Redfield Colors: Green, Gold City: Red Bluff, CA Mascot: Spartan The Red Bluff Spartans return 5 seniors and 1 junior to the team. The Spartans won Consolation at the Quarterback club invitational in Jackson 2 weekends ago. The team also lost in the 3rd place game taking home 4th place honors at the Arcata International Basketball Tournament. The Spartans are led by seniors Lucas Burns and Myke Nichols. Burns is entering his 2 year as a starter at Center for the Spartans and takes up a lot of space with his 6'5" frame. Curtis Twitchell, junior, is entering his 2 year on varsity and has moved into a starting spot this year. Twitchell starts at the power forward for the Spartans and creates match-up problems with other power forwards due to his guard abilities. Jacob Bigler, junior, has also stepped up for the Spartans and took home All Tournament honors in the team's first tournament in Jackson.
