December 14, 2012 Insert Page 4 Varsity Wrestling places third Egan Meagher Insert Editor The wrestling team played their Holiday Classic tournament last Saturday at the high school against multiple teams from the around the north state like Orland, West Valley, Chico, Pleasant Valley, Trinity and others. "There was some pretty good competition at the tournament but I could've done better," said Erick Fulk, senior and in the195 weight class. The team took 3 overall for the tournament out of the other schools. Case won all five of his matches with 2 pins, 1 technical win, and the rest were won by points. Most of the wrestlers have had around 8 matches so far in the season but the ones that have fared better have at least 10 matches under their belt. This year's team has several returning varsity wrestlers such as Kyle Case and Tucker Gulliford and new varsity wrestlers like Erick Fulk. The team also has a lot of fresh blood with the new underclassmen coming into the wrestling program. The majority of the team is comprised of underclassmen with only around 8 seniors. "We have a lot of freshmen this year so Rottenberg should have a pretty good team in a couple of years," said Case. The jv team lost to the Corning Cardinals last Wednesday night in a duel.
