Laurel Shoop & Marissa Chase Editors-in-Chief The time has come for Red Bluff High to implement more than a few bold changes from past years' curriculum. An intervention program of some kind to support students, along with a closed campus and restrictions to college classes are among the few changes set for next year (listed above); however, the list of changes, as it may be long now, is in the process of becoming longer. Since changes are still being decided completely, the bigger question lies with time: why now? "I think there are many ideas right now that staff is discussing and giving thought to and the important thing is that it is educationally sound and results in students gaining skills needed to be productive in the 21 century," said Lisa Esobar, Superintendent, in regards to the preceding question. Preparing kids for the 21 century includes Winter Break Focus on getting kids to grade level, keeping them at grade level, and stretching them beyond grade level and finishing 10 grade on track to graduate. th 10 th Develop "universal indicators" to determine interventions needed for each student. Offer "jump start" at beginning of Frosh year, and offer "extended year" at end of Frosh and Soph year. (Summer school) college, but this is not the only concern. An intervention program, one of the most important changes taking place the following year, is still being decided. It is a program that would put at-risk kids back on track. There are many ideas circulating about how and when it should be facilitated. It should be an intervention program that supports the whole school, according to Becky Coker, English teacher. In her opinion, the program should tutor, provide career " Reconfiguring of Personal Growth and Computer Literacy while adding career exploration, developing study skills, tracking attendance and academics, and providing support in other classes. By mid-January, a more concise plan for the following school year will be developed, along with a set intervention plan. Students will return a litttle more than two weeks later on Jan 7 due to changes in the school's calender. This means that Jan 14 will be an Inservice Day, and students will not have school. Goals: -Schools within a school -Teachers as Academy specific specialists -More kids on track at end of Sophomore year -More kids qualifying for college admission -Individualized student intervention plans -Grads leave high school with a plan for success Finals Schedule Finals begin for all students the following week, Tuesday, Dec 18 through 21. Monday will be a regular minmum day; however, Tuesday will incorporate finals for periods one and two, Wednesday three and four, and Thurday five and six. That marks the end of the first semester and no school Friday.
