Ed Cahill photo Senior Halley Powers placed second in pole vault with a leap of 8 feet as the Pike Central High School girls' track and field team finished fourth in the Du - bois-Pike Invitational at Jas- per on Thursday, April 12. Freshman Lauren Young placed third in the 100 -me- ter hurdles with a time of 18.48 seconds, and third in the 300 -meter hurdles with a time of 53.99 seconds, while junior Alyssa Jenkins placed third in discus with a throw of 96 feet, 7 inches, and fifth in shot put with a throw of 29 feet, 8 inches. In addition, freshman Lib- by Stone placed third in long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 3-1/2 inches, senior Taylor Deffendoll placed fourth in high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches, and fresh- man Jenna Meyer finished in a three-way tie for fourth place in pole vault with a leap of 7 feet, 6 inches. Pike Central also placed first in the 1,600 -meter relay with a time of 4:23.52; fourth in the 3,200 -meter relay with a time of 12:17.45; and fourth in the 400 -meter relay with a time of 56.54 seconds. As a team, Pike Central scored 38 -1/3 points. Jasper was first with 111-1/3 points, followed by Southridge (105 points) and Forest Park (87- 1/3). Northeast Dubois was fifth with 11 points. Pike Central will return to action on Thursday, April 19, when the Lady Chargers will host the Pike Central In- vitational. 12.15 seconds – and Kirby teamed up with sophomore Sam Theising and fresh- man Colt Armstrong to place third in the 400 -meter relay with a season-best time of 45.98 seconds. Placing fifth in individual events for the Chargers was Armstrong in high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches. In addition, the team of freshmen Reece Ashley, Garrett Boyd, Ethan Huck and Simon McCrary placed second in the 400 -meter freshmen relay with a sea- son-best time of 49.37 sec- onds; and the team of junior Christian Benson, soph- omore Nate Woolery and freshmen Ijaa Chambers and Colson Dillard placed fourth in the 3,200 -meter re- lay with a season-best time of 9:24.70. Also posting season-best performances for the Char- gers but not placing were freshman Garrett Boyd in pole vault with a leap of 9 feet, 6 inches; sophomore Andrew Clark in long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 4 inch- es; junior Andrew Krieg in shot put with a throw of 36 feet, 5 inches; freshman Josh McHargue in shot put with a throw of 24 feet; and freshman Jackson Smith in the 300 -meter hurdles with a time of 53.87 seconds. As a team, Pike Central scored 28 points. Jasper was first with 169 points, followed by Forest Park (60 points), Southridge (51) and Northeast Dubois (45). JALAH BARNES has played softball four years at Pike Central, and also participates in basketball and golf. She received the Varsity Hitting Award, and was named All-PAC Honorable Mention in 2015. She is an Honor Roll student, whose favorite subject is Math. Jalah is also a member of Swing Choir, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Business Professionals of America, Student Government, Gradu- ation Committee and partici- pates in PCHS musicals. She is the daughter of Tina and Bill Gadberry, of Petersburg. JORDAN MONTGOMERY has played softball four years at Pike Central and has also participated in cross country. She has received the Mental Attitude Award for both cross country and softball, the JV Batting Award, and Academic Awards for cross country and softball. Jordan's favorite class is Medical Terminology. She is a member of National Honor Society and the Graduation Committee. She is the daughter of Chad and Angie Montgom - ery, of Otwell. SHELBI PIPES has played softball four years at Pike Central and also participates in volleyball. She has received the Outfielders Award and was a member of the Conference Championship softball team. She also received the Setting Award and All-Around Player Award in volleyball. Shelbi is an Honor Roll stu - dent, and her favorite classes are Science and Medical classes. She is a member of National Honor Society, Grad- uation Committee and Prom Steering Committee. She also enjoys boating and movies. She is the daughter of Dave and Lori Pipes, of Petersburg.
