The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, March 21, 2018 C- 3 MAIN STREET PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 10th and Main Streets, Petersburg 812-354-6844 Sunday worship 10 :30 a.m.; Youth group Monday evening at 6 p.m. Come vis- it us, our doors are always open to you. Unconditional love No matter what sin we have committed, no matter how terrible it may be, God loves us. Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. Boyd Heldring, Pastor Amy Melhiser, Secretary overcome their addiction through programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous, apart from faith, all too of- ten they return to their drinking ways when con- fronted with a crisis. The world's answer to the prob- lems of this life is, "I need a drink." However, the an- swer is not found in the bot- tom of a bottle. The answer is a personal relationship with Christ! Everyone reading these lines has a family member, a dear friend, or a neigh- bor who struggles with this temptation. Yes, even believers wrestle with this sin, as Paul makes very clear: "Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness….But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not pro- vision for the flesh, to ful- fill the lusts thereof" (Rom. 13:12-14). The best thing we can do for those who grapple with this addiction is to show them our love and support. It is important to share with them that they are dead to this sin in Christ and therefore, it doesn't have to control their life any longer. Since alcoholism is such a deeply seated problem, encourage them to search out a godly pastor or Christian coun- selor who can assist them in a better understanding of Romans, Chapter 6. Second we must accept His won- derful Grace, so we ac- cept that there has been a remarkable change in our lives where we are not on- ly forgiven but also accept- ed by our heavenly Father. Slow going project but very re- warding. If you would like to be involved in this proj- ect let us know and we'll put you to work. This coming Easter morning we have plans to have a sermon at 8 a.m. and then have communion fol- lowed by some breakfast type refreshments. Scripture reading: Luke 23:1-5. Theme statement: We read in this passage the ac- count of the most infamous trial in history. Pilate was astute enough to know that he was on trial, not Jesus. Avoiding accepting or reject- ing Jesus as King is a dilem- ma millions still face today. Jesus shows us the way out of our dilemmas. 1. God's Authority. 2. Our Avoidance. 3. Jesus' Answer. How con- cerned are we about our- selves? If we really want to be a follower of Jesus, we have to be willing to do a few things. 1. Take a back seat and deny ourselves (vs 34). 2. As we face so many uncer- tain events in our life from day to day all we can do is put our full faith and trust in the God of our salvation. He stated in His word that He would not put any more on us that we could not bear but sometimes the load seems so heavy and it is more. But we have to look to the Word and those words that will give us strength and we will make it through. He said He would never leave us nor for- sake us and we have to stand on that promise. Pray for your country, our President and government, your local government, our soldiers and all Pastors. Re- member to pray for the sick and afflicted and those in the nursing homes and hos- pitals. Also pray about the elections. Be a friend to your neigh- bors, co-workers, any that you come into contact with. To have a friend you need to be a friend. Jesus said what you give out is what you will receive back. May you find peace and joy in your life this week. God's Servant and friend to Humanity. George Bruce, Pastor CHURCH NOTE DEADLINE 10 A.M.
