Page 2 The school has so much to be thankful for... It seems odd, especially around this time of year, that students have so much negativity regarding this school. Not only is it Thanksgiving, but Red Bluff High School has a lot to offer in the activities, classes, and atmosphere it provides all of its students. There is a lot to be thankful for at this school, and we, The Bluffer staff, want to say thank you. Many schools have neglected to to keep their newspapers around. Money is scarce, and it is not only their faults; however, our school has kept us around, allowing us to write this article and publish many others. Dance, drama, art, ROP programs, choir, leadership, Spartan Radio, yearbook, and various sport teams are just several of the programs and activities this school is known for. Our school thrives off of the fact that its students can excel in other areas of life that don't only pertain to the classroom. In other words, they give us options and outlets to express our creativity, time, and energy. On the front page, we did an article on Red Bluff High School culture. What makes our school different than others? In what areas is our school skilled in? With this subject matter of school culture, any student at this school should be thankful. The relationship between students and November 16, 2012 teachers is one of the defining features at Red Bluff High. Unlike many other schools, there is a mutual respect, and teachers expend a lot of energy towards the success of their students. We all support each other at this school and allow it to be an overall trustworthy place full of support. Besides this element of our culture, our school surpasses many in its ability to have spirit. We are able to have so much school spirit and admiration because our school allows us to. We have huge rallies throughout the year, some that take up a whole class period or longer. Along with that, there is Holiday Classic, Mr. Spartan, dances, and many other activities for us to participate in. Even if none of these allow you to feel spirited, there is always the option to start your own club with the help of a teacher. It is all connected, and each of these aspects create the unusual culture that consumes Red Bluff High. With the start of Thanksgiving break at the end of today, it is understandable that this highly anticipated Friday is something to be thankful for. With this being said, the Bluffer wants to make sure that a lot more appreciation is given as well. There are many things to be thankful for at this school, and Red Bluff High should never be taken for granted. People judge schools that they have never attended Students judge other schools without even knowing the atmosphere of the area at all B eing a Cottonwood kid, I went to the medium sized school of Evergreen Middle School and almost every kid at the school always said that Red Bluff High is a terrible school. Oh, you will get hooked on drugs and be peer pressured into all the Red Bluff gangs, you won't graduate from there, all the teachers are horrible, and other stupid nonsense that's not true at all. So, when I was an incoming freshman at Red Bluff High, I did not exactly know what to expect. I wondered if as soon as I got off the bus I was going to get beaten up or get made fun of the whole day. But, as I kind of figured, none of that happened. So, what always made me upset is the people saying that schools are really bad when they have no freaking clue about the school. They have never been to the campus, never met the people, and never met the teachers and say that the whole school district is bad and say stupid rumors that aren't true. The teachers at RBHS school are fantastic by the way. After experiencing Red Bluff High for a full year, I've it is. They haven't been to this school, they haven't met the people, and have no clue about it. Until they transfer here, spend a year or so here and then tell me how they actually feel about it, I really don't care about what they have to say about Red Bluff High School. So, until they understand the school and know what the school is about, I really don't care about what they have to say. And that goes for everyone, not just Cottonwood people. Everyone that bashes a school that they've never been to and thinks they know what they're talking about when they have no clue shouldn't say anything until they have a first hand experience. Ryan Fisher wondered where these rumors come from, and why they are being said. Most of the time it is the parents of the kids saying these things. Seeing that the town of Red Bluff isn't much to shout about they just assume that "Oh, the school has to be terrible." Then the parents tell their kids and then the kids tell other kids about the stupidity their parents are saying, and it's just a horrible chain of nonsense that will not end until someone stands up to the lame rumors that aren't even true. As a Cottonwood kid, most of my friends went to West Valley and most of them tell me I'm making a bad choice going to Red Bluff High and need to transfer to West Valley because Red Bluff is just a terrible school that is filled with gangs and nothing else. I wonder where they heard that from? And then I tell them it's not a bad school like they think School dances need to improve music selection and choice of DJ A lthough the dance was now almost over a month ago, everyone is clearly able to remember one thing: how disappointed they were in the music. We have had the same DJ for all of the dances that have gone on during my four years at the high school. Some dances were pretty great with plenty of danceable music, while others have been just okay. But this year's Homecoming was definitely an epic fail. When you have people who sit down in a circle in the middle of the dance floor, that's typically a red flag. I know that each and every person has their own unique taste in music. However, when you attend a dance, the majority of students put aside their differences and all root for upbeat hip-hop dance music to be played. Sadly, this was not what happened. Instead, a variety of awkward not slow, yet not fast songs were played. These are easy to identify by what happens when this type of songs starts. People stop, confusedly look at other couples, and then some start slow dancing while others fast dance. This is when a song can be declared awkward. As a result, people sometimes shuffle off the dance floor. Many times Homecoming night, huge groups of people evacuated because the music was that bad. There is a simple explanation for this. The DJ was not good at reading his crowd. I feel as though we are being transported back in time to a middle school dance. Some old music has to be played because it can be fun, but at the same time new music is needed since it's what's currently being listened to. Good DJs know how to achieve a balance. Some may argue that it's impossible to please everyone, but there's definitely a way to make a large portion of students satisfied. In my opinion, there an entire should be student government position dedicated to the dance details. What would help the most would be being able to make requests. Apparently, there were request boxes in seniors' government classrooms. While this was a nice effort, it needed to be better executed. I, along with Staff Writer probably ninety percent of the seniors, didn't even know there was a request box until after the fact. I know that we're tight on money and the school can't afford to spend tons of money on a DJ, but that's not what I'm asking for. There are two different options for fixing this. We need to either give the DJ a very clear, concise idea of what students really want to hear, or find a new DJ. Fast. Natalie Almond A iPhone 5 makes a decent purchase s we all know, the new iPhone5 came out and everyone wants to know how much better it is than the iPhone4s, and whether it is worth replacing your old iPhone with the new one. The main changes with this new iPhone are basically its appearance. It has a taller screen and a new look on the back, it is also much lighter. In my opinion it does look a lot better than the past iPhones. Some other differences Advertising Director between the two phones are that the iPhone5 has a new smaller plug in power cable that actually fits in either way you try and plug it in, unlike the old plug in cables where it only fits in if it is right side up. I like this because its very frustrating laying in the dark trying to plug in your charger when all you want to do is fall asleep. Some other things are that the ear bud plug ins are now in the bottom and the speakers are now louder. This is a much better upgrade from the old Apple ear buds. If I had an iPhone4s I don't think it would be worth it to trade in even if I had an upgrade. But if you are debating on whether to buy the iPhone4 or 5, then I would go 5 all the way. It looks better, and it's faster.
