The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, March 7, 2018 C- 3 WHITE RIVER CHAPEL UMC 3555 W. SR 56 in Bowman 812-582-8896 Sunday morning worship 9:30 a.m.; Sunday school 10 :45 a.m.; Thursday eve- ning Bible study at 6:30 p.m. hearts to the salvation God offers. Countless numbers of people have "call[ed] on the Lord out of a pure heart" (II Tim. 2:22). Hosts of believers today seek to leave behind the regular practice of sin be- cause they "have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was de- livered you" (Rom. 6:17). On a daily basis, most be- lievers pursue a walk that will please the Lord be- cause "in singleness of heart, fearing God…[they choose to] serve the Lord Christ" (Col. 3:22-24). Ma- ny believers are "doing the will of God from the heart" (Eph. 6:6). Those who choose such a path do so because they are choosing to "keep their heart with all diligence." They do so by regularly taking in the Word of God and applying proper truth to the way they live each day. It is, of course, possible for a believer to choose a path of sinful living. Every believer can choose to al- low his heart to grow cold to the things of the Lord. For those who do, the Apostle Paul warned that, while still saved, they could reach a spiritual condition of "having the understand- ing darkened, being alien- ated from the life of God… because of the blindness of their heart" (Eph. 4:18). Such a condition is the spir- itual equivalent of a block- age to the heart. Know- ing that as believers "we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ… [and] every one of us shall give an account of himself to God" (Rom. 14:10,12), it behooves every believer to maintain a soft, responsive heart to the Lord. Dear believer, how is your heart today, in a spir- itual sense? If you have made past decisions of sin- fulness that have hardened your heart, you can choose to open the door of your heart and begin to live for the Lord again. You can be- gin today. You can begin to read the Scriptures again, talk to the Lord in prayer, and seek a church where the truths of God's Word are faithfully taught. If your heart has been faith- fully following the Lord, "Praise His Name." May we all seek to apply the wise counsel from Solomon to "keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." there and all the while they realize that all he is trying to do is make us think. If we were all the same this world likely couldn't stand and not much would ev- er get accomplished. God made us individuals for a good reason and that is go out into the world and teach what He has taught us. The name over the church door has nothing to do with being saved that comes from the blood of Jesus being spilled for us. What you believe for your doctrine passed that pre- cious blood is mostly man made and I agree that you should worship with those who have the same doc- trine and leave the feuding and fussing out of our lives. God would certainly get more glory from our wor- ship services if we would put this to practice. I'm really happy to say that we have made prog- ress on getting our church basement back into a more usable condition. We now have a new step platform our walls are being pre- pared for a fresh coat of paint. Hopefully soon we will be able to have a re- dedication for our base- ment. Sad to say this is a little while away but it will be accomplished. Well I've about said enough and I always ask that you be a blessing and accept blessings as they come. Scripture reading: Luke 22:35 -38. Theme statement: God became flesh and dwelt amongst us as Jesus. If we have given our lives to Christ, we are the stew- ards of the interpretation of the resurrection of Christ. Christians are responsible for sharing the fact that Je- sus came as our King, that there is a Kingdom and you are included in it. There are three keys to becoming a great steward of our story: 1. God calls everyone, both men and women, to express godly character. Being godly is not about living up to cul- tural expectations, but about conforming our lives to God and His Word. Godliness is a way of being, thinking and acting that honors God. You know that everything you do and say can honor or dishon- or God, but your thoughts can also honor God. In like the Spirit In many places, March is notoriously windy: "In like a lion...! " Though I don't like the damp chill that's often part of the transition to spring, I love the windy days. Something about the air's movement - a gentle breeze or ferocious gale blowing through the trees, against the house, in my hair - breeds excitement in me, anticipation that some- thing new is astir. How fitting that is in con- versation with Nicodemus, Jesus said, "The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit" ( John 3:8, NRSV ). Like Nicode- mus, we fail to comprehend the Spirit of God. But Jesus reminds us that though we can't see the Spirit, we feel his love, see his actions of justice and hear his sounds. These include kind words, bold preaching, weeping for another, shared laughter and songs of praise. Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday.
