INFB's 2018 legislative priorities, as determined by its members across the state, are: • Protect livestock farmers and their operations. • Maintain local control and flexibility. • Enhance Indiana Depart- ment of Environmental Management (IDEM) oversight. • Strengthen rural quality of life. • Eliminate food deserts. • Extend rural broadband to the last mile. • Limit annexation. • Consistently limit waiv- ers. • Eliminate economic de- velopment loopholes. • Ensure assessment uni- formity. • Apply assessment defi- nitions and rules consis- tently to real and person- al property. • Provide strictly confiden- tial tax audits. "Property taxes and an- nexation are issues that are always top of mind in the ag- ricultural community," said Katrina Hall, INFB direc- tor of public policy. "We also are still focused on improv- ing the quality of life for our members in rural areas of the state. That means find- ing a financing framework to bring broadband internet access at a reasonable price to rural communities and working to eliminate food deserts." Pike Farm Bureau mem- bers discussed many of these priorities with Sen- ator Mark Messmer, Rep. Ron Bacon, Rep. Shane Lindauer, Rep. Tom Wash- burne today. Each year, members with a profession- al connection to a proposed or prioritized piece of legis- lation volunteer to attend the Statehouse meeting. This year, Pike County Farm Bu- reau President - Ken My- er, CEOC (County Educa- tion Outreach Coordinator) - Cassie Harker, and Farm Bureau Member Kara Wil- Joe Henson named Chief Executive Officer of Dubois REC Joseph Henson has been named Chief Executive Of- ficer of Dubois County Ru- ral Electric Cooperative. Henson replaces Don Book, who has served as CEO for more than 27 years. As the new CEO, Joe Henson brings more than 33 years in the corporate office and heavy industrial setting, most recently serv- ing as the Manager of Safety and Training at Hoosier En- ergy. He started his career in 1984 at the Frank E. Rat- ts Generating Station in Pe- tersburg. Henson has strong ex- perience in project man- agement, strategic plan- ning and executive leader- ship. Henson received his project management train- ing through Kelly School of Business and has a Master of Business Administration degree. Henson has been married to his wife Debbie for almost 30 years. They have three children and two granddaughters. "I'm excited to be join- ing the great team at Du- bois REC. I am really look- ing forward to serving the members of the Dubois REC." "As a board, we have been very pleased with Don's dedicated service to our members and our com- munity," said REC Board President Brad Knies. "Don (Book) has always ensured our member's needs were being met and their voices were heard. We feel that Joe Henson is the right person to step up and make sure the dedication and care is seamlessly continued." Henson will begin his du- ties on March 19. Pike County Farm Bureau CEOC Cassie Harker stat- ed, "I'm grateful Farm Bu- reau enabled our voices to be heard by legislators face to face today and that we had the opportunity to speak up for our community and for the future for our children and grandchildren." Joseph Henson Weber is promoted to Assistant District Commander at Evansville Indiana State Police Su- perintendent Douglas Cart- er has promoted Sgt. Tom Weber to the rank of First Sergeant to serve as the As- sistant District Commander at Evansville. Weber is a native of Rock- port and a 1989 graduate of South Spencer High School. He later attended Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owens- boro and received a Bache- lor's Degree in Criminal Jus- tice. Weber graduated the In- diana State Police Recruit School in December 1993 and was assigned to the Evansville District. He pri- marily patrolled Pike Coun- ty, until he transferred to Warrick County in 1995. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2003 and served in that capacity until being promoted to assistant dis- trict commander. First Sergeant Weber and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Newburgh with their three sons.
