Mrs. Dedman's class participating in pajama day for PES Spirit week. Amelia Adams and Alyssa McCutchan recently spent Chief Tickets to help out in Mrs. Goff's second grade classroom. They also had choices for reading. They could draw their favorite scene from the story, create an ad, or make a list of adages, idioms, and old fashioned sayings. The work is now posted in the hallway. The fifth graders completed time lines for so- cial studies. Officer Kent Johnson is teaching the D.A.R.E. Program to OMA's fifth graders. Pike Central NHS students Maggie McDonald and Emma Bush read to OMA students. OMA ap- preciates both the girls for being outstanding role models to our students! Pike County officer Kent Johnson kicked off OMA's Read Across America Week! Students en- joyed him taking his time to read Cat in The Hat with them. Former Indianapolis Colts cheerleader Mallory Humbert took time out of her busy schedule to read to OMA students. First grader Braelyn Turner came to school as Cindy Lou Who for Dress like your favorite book character day. OMA has celebrated Read Across America all week. OMA fourth graders proudly displaying their handmade hats after presenting the president re- ports. MENU Thursday, March 1: Beef stew, fresh broccoli, bread- stick and diced peaches. Friday, March 2: Fish sandwich, tater tots, green beans, apple and a Dr. Se- uss cookie. Monday, March 5: Mini corn dog, garden salad, baked beans and diced pears. Tuesday, March 6: Soft ta- co, lettuce, tomato, Mexican corn and a banana. Wednesday, March 7: Beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, mixed veggies and pineapple tidbits. CALENDAR Early Release dates, Mar. 7, 14, and 21. Mar. 6 and 8: Robotics practice after school until 5 p.m. Mar. 9: Parents, please talk to your children about focus- ing, reading the entire ques- tion, and trying their best. Also, make sure they get plenty of rest so they will be at their best for the testing. Mar. 2: First grade will be cele- brating Dr. Seuss. Perfect attendance re- ward for the month of Feb- ruary Mar. 3: Tri-State Spelling Bee will be held in Evansville at Ivy Tech. Mar. 4-10: National School Social Worker's Week. Remember to tell Mrs. McCutchan how much you appreciate her! Mar. 8: Students and staff wear their red "be" shirts Mar. 9: Spring Pictures Kindergarten Pancake and Pajama Day Spring Carnival Mar. 10: VEX Robotics state tour- nament at Lucas Oil in Indi- anapolis. Mar. 11: Daylight Savings Time Begins…Set clocks forward one hour. Mar. 12-16: I-READ 3 testing. I- READ is an evaluation of reading skills for students in grade 3. Mar. 16: End of third grading pe- riod. Mrs. DeCoursey and the fifth grade teachers will be taking our 5th grade stu- dents to experience the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. St. Patrick's Day. Mar. 19: Mr. Ashworth, band di- rector for Pike Central, will be here at 1 p.m. to talk to the 5th grade students about band. Mar. 19-22: Book Fair! Students will be visiting the Book Fair during their regular library time. The book fair will be open for families during Grandparent's Day Mar. 22: Grandparents' Day. Grades K-2 will begin their programs at 9 a.m. Grades 3-5 will begin their programs at 1 p.m. The programs will take place in the gym. You may visit the K-2 classrooms af- ter the K-2 program. You may visit the 3-5 classrooms after the 3-5 program. Mar. 23: Report cards sent home Mar. 26-30: Spring Break-School will not be in session! Have fun! April 2: First day back to school after spring break.
