It will bring others into its worship if I invite and bring them. It will be a parish of loyal- ty and love, of fearlessness and faith, of compassion, charity and mercy if I who make it what it is, am filled with these same things. Therefore, with the help of God, I now dedicate my- self to the task of being all the things that I want my parish to be. Courage through God's Spirit "For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline" (2 Timothy 1:7, K JV ). This scripture is a good reminder of what God wants us to be or, to be more spe- cific, how he wants us to be. It is a common belief that if you are a Christian that you should be timid, nervous or even spineless at times, let- ting others take over you by "turning the other cheek." This phrase from the Bible is for the most part misinter- preted. The piece of scrip- ture is really talking about forgiving others even in the hardest of times and situa- tions. I say this to tell you that this scripture tells us how God gives us the power to overcome any obstacle even if that obstacle is ten times our size. In turn, he is giv- ing us the ability to love and show compassion to even the hardest of people. He also provides us with self- discipline or restraint and the wisdom to know what He would have us do in that specific situation. As Christians and chil- dren of God, we are powerful through him. So show cour- age because God has given you all the tools you need to face your next mountain. God bless you and keep you. We welcome you to all ser- vices. Come and worship Je- sus with us. Maybe it's a word puzzle, or an actu- al puzzle, a rhyme or a rid- dle, but no matter how much time you spend on it you just couldn't see the solution. Many times in these cas- es, all you need is a change of perspective. You've been looking at it from the same angle for so long that you're at an empasse. Changing the letters around in a word puzzle or looking at a puzzle from the other side of the ta- ble can help you to sudden- ly see how it all makes sense and fits together. When it comes to the things of God and you seem stuck, stop trying to 'make the Word work' and 'allow the Word to work' in your life. Romans 10 :17 says, "So then faith comes by hear- ing, and hearing by the Word of God." If you want to see God's promises come to pass in your life you need to build your faith by hear- ing the Word of God. Read it, speak it, listen to it until it becomes so real to you that nothing can stop you from receiving it. • Out of the Box Ladies Ministry, Thursday, March 8, at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Peggy Smith.
