This Sunday's sermon will be titled "The Savior's Song." Scripture reading from Luke 2:18 -20. Theme statement: The Savior's song is a love song for all of His creation. The shepherds were given a mes- sage of undeserved love. The greatest gift any of us can receive during this Ho- ly Season is the overwhelm- ing love of God. There are three life changing truths in the Sav- ior's Song. 1. God's Love made Christmas. 2. God' Love is a gift made for everyone. 3. God's Love never changes but it changes us. We thank You and praise You today for the miracle of Your Son's birth. Thank You for bringing great joy to the whole world. Thank You for giving us the as- surance that because You came to us in the form of a human, we who believe in Jesus can know with ab- solute certainly that we'll spend eternity with You. We thank You, Lord, for the many reasons we have been given a merry Christ- mas. And we rejoice for each blessing. New life. New love. A home. A job. New opportunities. Sec- ond chances. And more. We know, Lord, that You bring the sun and the moon and set the stars in motion. You tell the ocean where to stop and the snow when to start. And we thank You for the mighty gift of Your cre- ation. Thank You, Father, for spiritual leaders and faith- filled friends who keep en- couraging us when we are close to giving up. And al- though we have many rea- sons to rejoice today, Lord we also know December 25 can be not-so-merry for a whole host of reasons. We pray for those who are ex- periencing loss this Christ- mas: relational, financial, spiritual and physical. Gifts from the heart are the most important gifts we can give during this sea- son, but all too often we for- get that truth in the midst of all the holiday commer- cialization. We cave in- to the pressure of buying more and more, even if it means piling up debt. But if we change our perspective SPURGEON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 11505 N. Sunday morning worship service at 10 a.m., with Sun- day school classes at 10 :45 a.m.; Every other Tuesday night, prayer at 7 p.m. In this day and hour in which we live so many lives have been impacted in a neg- ative way. The Word of God talks about a famine for the Word, there was not a word from the Lord for the peo- ple to receive. The famine for the Word today is the fact that the people do not hun- ger for the Word. We should hunger for all that God has for us in the preaching of His Word so we can be effective in winning the lost with pow- er. If you only put a little gas in an automobile for one day, the vehicle is not able to per- form its purpose. Are you full to perform? Pray for your country, our president and government, your local government, our soldiers and all pastors. Re- member to pray for the sick and afflicted, and those in the nursing homes and hos- pitals. Be a friend to your neigh- bors, co-workers, any with whom you come into con- tact. To have a friend, you need to be a friend. Jesus said what you give out is what you will receive back. May you find peace and joy in your life this week. Fill a jar Need a new tradition to begin the new year? One way to reflect on your bless- ings as the days and months pass is to fill a Blessings Jar. Simply find a container (ide- ally with a lid) and place it in a prominent place in your home. Next to it, set slips of paper and writing utensils. Encourage every fami- ly member to jot down one thing they're grateful for ev- ery day. If you have a large family, you may need one jar for each person. You can al- so use different colored pa- per slips for each family member. Every week, sit down to- gether and review the many ways that God is present in your lives.
