When you examine what most influential actors and directors believe about God you can understand the absence of real Christianity. Harvey Weinstein's sex- ual abuse is an example of many producers. Many of the leading entertainers are reli- gious but not disciples of Jesus Christ. They have the passion of an evangelist for religion but no interest in a relationship with Jesus Christ. It is a religious void of a commitment to the Bible and a Christian lifestyle. Most of them are evangelists for New Age religions. The most powerful television evangelist in the world was Oprah Winfrey. She spread her religion to far more people than any preacher on the planet. She is an entertaining, charm- ing, warm liberal and has many wonderful words of advice. The big problem is many peo- ple are taken in by her charm and accept her liberal teachings. One tragic statement Oprah has made is, "One of the biggest mistakes humans make is to believe there is only one way. Actual- ly, there are many di- vine paths leading to what you call God." Nothing could be far- ther from the truth. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh to the Father but by me." John Travolta is a believer in the false religion called Scientolo- gy. Bruce Willis states, "I choose not to inter- pret the Bible literally." George Lucas said, "I try to awaken a belief in God, but not a be- lief in any particular religious system." Those who listen to most of what Hollywood says will be more confused and find their life has little meaning and no direction or purpose. There are exceptions in Hollywood like Pat Boone and a few others, but not many. "Jacob… lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night… and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pil- lows… And he dreamed, and… awaked out of his sleep, and… said… this is none other than the house of God" (Genesis 28:10 -17). And you thought your starter house was humble! At least you had a roof over your head and pleasant amenities like walls, doors and windows. As you can see, the first house that God chose to call home here on earth had none of those luxuries! As a result, the first houseguest of the Almighty slept outdoors on the ground with rocks to serve as his pillows. God's next house was a little more sub- stantial, but fairly small by our standards. We speak, of course, of the ark of the covenant. At 1.5 x 1.5 x 2.5 cubits (Exodus 25:10), it could easily be featured on the popular television show Tiny House Nation. We know it was a mo- bile home, for it led God's people through the wilderness, and we later read about something that happened "all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh" ( Judges 18:31). When God finally decided to settle down, He chose to put down roots in the land of Is- rael, where "Solomon…built the house of the Lord in Jerusalem" (I Chronicles 6:32). This is a reference to the magnificent temple that King Solomon built for God, of course. And it was into this new house of God that they brought the old house of God, when "the priests brought in the ark…into the most ho- ly place" (II Chronicles 5:7). The temple then became the big house of God, with the little house of God inside, a more appropriate home for the God of all creation. But this house-within-a-house is nothing compared to the living arrangements God has today. The "fearfully and wonderfully made" 1 physical body of every believer "is the tem- ple of the Holy Ghost" (I Corinthians 6:19). But "the house of God" today is also the local church (I Tim. 3:15), the gathering of God's people together in a local assembly. But as im- pressive as some of these local assemblies are, they pale in comparison to "the church, which is His Body" (Ephesians 1:22,23), a church made up of all believers found everywhere around the world. Thus today God dwells in a house-within-a-house-within-a-house. Now that's a great house! "But in a great house there are not only Ramblings of my mind by Lowell Thomas Well the volunteers that put up the "Christmas in the park" decorations have been busy last week. We usually work in the mornings and are about a third done with the displays. Some take more time than others as you have to bolt them together which is sometimes fairly awkward because of their size and how you have to position yourself to accomplish your task. All in all it is kind of fun being useful to your com- munity and when we are done it becomes beautiful. Hopefully a couple of Saturday nights we will have some folks caroling by the cabin but that is still a works in progress and still in the iffy stage. There is always room for more volunteers if you feel led to help just show up and say, "What can I do"? Now for another matter on my heart, being discouraged as a minister of the gos- pel of Jesus Christ.
