The Press-Dispatch School Wednesday, November 8, 2017 C- 5 The Pike County Teachers Association (PCTA) recent- ly spearheaded a toy drive to provide local Emergency Man- agement Services with toys and stickers to be used to help comfort children during troubling times. The toys are used by emergency personnel as a way to connect with children and distract them from stressful situation such as after car accidents, house fires, etc... All faculty and staff within the Pike County School Corporation were invited to participate in the toy drive that resulted in over 100 items being collected. Members of the PCTA presented the collected items to Offi- cer Kent Johnson who has since distributed them to the sher- iff's department, city police and ambulance services within the community. Mr. Kyle Brames' Quantitative Reasoning class recently stud- ied fractals and created a 3D model of one. A Menger Sponge is a three-dimensional fractal, which can be made by taking a cube and cutting out a square section through the center; then each of the resulting smaller cubes is cut out in the same way, and so on until you've removed infinitely many pieces. So each Menger Sponge is made from thirty-two identical-but-smaller Menger Sponges. This results in an object which has zero vol- ume but infinite surface area! Students built 1024 cubes which created 32 "level one" sponges that were used to create the "lev- el two." The Menger Sponge is currently on display in the high school Media Center. God's Omnipotence A Sunday school teach- er was asking her students some questions after a series of lessons on God's omnipo- tence. She asked, "Is there anything God can't do? " All was silent. Finally, one boy held up his hand. The teacher, on seeing this, was disappointed that they had missed the point of the lesson. She sighed and asked, "Well, what is it you think God can't do? " The boy replied, "He can't please everybody" —Author Unknown. "But Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible'" (Mat- thew 19:26 ESV ). We invite all of you to come and worship with us. Roy Stilwell, Pastor Pam Lemond, Reporter Want to share your news with others?
