The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, November 1, 2017 C- 3 RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Continued in next column Continued from page 2 True friends are precious and should be treated with the care you would treat something very valuable. Speaking of good friends we have a couple who have had their share of trials lately with sickness and things around the home going bad, but I'm happy to say that while the dev- il is trying to knock them down God keeps pick- ing them up. The God we serve is not going to allow you to be defeated as long as you let Him take care of the worry and you just do what you can. He will pro- vide for His children. Without having servic- es Sunday I'll have to give you what they would have gotten. David and his men returned to the city that they were allowed to live after being rejected by the Philistines. When they got there they found their city burned and their families and belongings had been taken. Now David has slid in his devotion to God and he and his men were devas- tated with their loss. David sees now that they had been doing things without going with God and His blessing. He mends his relationship with God and asks if they should go after the group who has wronged them and God shows David that not only will they catch them. They will win the battle and their families and belong- ings will be returned. There were only 400 of their enemy escape while the battle lasted biggest part of the day. The enemy was celebrating their vic- tory and was unprepared for the battle so David and his men killed all of them. Their belongings were re- turned with extra spoils taken from the enemy. Some of David's men were reluctant to share the spoils with the 200 men who had remained to watch over the supplies, but David calms them down and said the supporters were important as well and they had done their part. So if you feel like you aren't doing your part know that we all play dif- ferent roles in God's King- dom . Do your best to be a blessing and accept every blessing that comes your way. There are three key as- pects of Jesus' teaching about prayer: 1. Jesus' enunciation of prayer. PETERSBURG FREE METHODIST CHURCH 202 E. Some- one out there is not happy. The rarest of commodities, peace of mind, eludes the masses. While some de- pression is of a clinical na- ture and does not need med- ication, many people sink in- to depression because they feel lost and without pur- pose. They don't have Jesus in their lives. Jesus can give us the peace of mind we so desperately need. The peace of God guards our hearts and our minds. That is cool, indeed. "Father, I thank You for Your peace that stands guard over us. I praise You for giving us peace of mind. Your divine protection is like crawling into our mother's arms. Thank you"—Amen. David Walton, Pastor Hope Barnett, Reporter ist Church exists to glorify God through Jesus Christ our Lord. As a body of believ- ers, we pledge ourselves to al- low the Holy Spirit to develop within us maturity of spirit, unity of faith, and knowledge of the Son of God, so that we may be prepared to share His love, mercy and grace through our words and ac- tions, to a needy world. We extend an invitation to the public to come and wor- ship with us. The Good Shepherd takes care of His sheep. Douglas Low, Minister 2. Jesus' example of his prayer life. 3. We are all so blessed to have God's Word at our fin- gertips. When King Josiah was shown what God's in- structions were for His holy people, he tore his robes in brokenness and repentance. We can show willing obedi- ence to our Lord and His re- quirements and also reach out to others with this mes- sage. "Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says" ( James 1:22). Upcoming activities and services: • Operation Christmas Child packing party, Sun- day, Nov. 5, during morn- ing's children church. • Community Thanks- giving meal, Sunday, Nov. 19 at 4:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come and share in our feast of thankfulness to all that God has done and continues to do for us. Sunday morning worship service at 10 a.m., with Sun- day school classes at 10 :45 a.m.; every other Tuesday night, prayer at 7 p.m. Another season is upon us and over 3/4 of a year gone. Through the year to this date, did you grow in grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ? Or as so many have done in those days, did you remain complacent and stag- nant? As a natural child we grew, from being bottle fed to beginning to crawl, then feeding ourselves and walk - ing, to a place that sounds be- came words. In Christ, we are to come from the milk in- to strong meat to become a vessel of honor to our God. Where do you stand? Pray for your country, our president and government, your local government, our soldiers and all pastors. Re- member to pray for the sick and afflicted, and those in the nursing homes and hospitals. Be a friend to your neigh- bors, co-workers, any with whom you come into contact. To have a friend, you need to be a friend. Jesus said what you give out is what you will receive back. May you find peace and joy in your life this week. Fueled by Thankfulness Thankfulness is not a mi- nor virtue. It is not one of the elementary virtues that may be left behind as we become more mature. I believe that thankfulness is essential to the strength of every virtue, and that without it, every oth- er branch is starved and lean. Life without thankfulness is devoid of love and passion. Hope without thankfulness is lacking in fine perception. Faith without thankfulness lacks strength and fortitude. Every virtue divorced from thankfulness is maimed and limps along the spiritual road.
