College (178), Uni- versity of Illinois-Spring- field (184), Drury University (237), McKendree Universi- ty (277), William Jewell Col- lege (362) and Quincy Uni- versity (363). Coverage of the GLVC Cross Country Champion- ships will be shown on the GLVC Network on Thurs- day, Oct. 28, at 8 p.m., East- ern time, on GLVCSN.com, GLVCN iOS and Android mo- bile apps, as well as GLVCSN OT T platforms on Roku, Ap- ple T V, Amazon Fire T V, and Android T V. The ninth-ranked Scream- ing Eagles will return to ac- tion on Saturday, Nov. 4, when they will compete in the NCA A II Midwest Re- gion Championships in Ce- darville, Ohio, before host- ing the NCA A II National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 18, and Angel Mounds State Park in Evansville. Last year as a redshirt junior, Parker – the son of Mitch and Kendrea Parker of Petersburg – placed 38th at the NCA A II Midwest Re- gional Championships and 122nd at the NCA A II Na- tional Championships. As a redshirt sophomore in 2015, Parker, who is major- ing in accounting and pro- fessional services, finished 68th and 144th, respective- ly, in the two events. So they came out and they played hard." Senior quarterback Christian Alvey led the Chargers in rushing with 85 yards on 17 carries, in- cluding a 57-yard jaunt that helped set up Boger's touch- down run, while completing two of four pass attempts for three yards. Sophomore running back Mario Fields added 16 yards on seven carries while Bo- ger, who punted nine times for an average of 28.8 yards per kick, gained 11 yards on four carries and caught one pass for one yard. "Gibson's a great football team," Mattingly said. "We are an extremely one-di- mensional football team. That's not a knock on any- body. That's just kind of the way we're built and what we have the horses to do. We were effective against some teams, but when you see a team like Gibson Southern, in order to really compete against them, you've got to have the full package." "You've got to have a good pass defense, you've got to have a strong run defense, you've got to have a running game, you have to be able to throw the ball and you've got to be able to not make mistakes on special teams," Mattingly continued. "Only a team who can do all five of those things is even going to have a shot versus Gibson Southern." The Titans, who will trav- el to 10th-ranked Vincennes Lincoln (9 -1) in a sectional semifinal match-up on Fri- day, Oct. 27, compiled 469 yards in total offense – 304 on the ground and 165 in the air. "They'll see some com- petition down the road, I'm sure," Mattingly said. "But they're a very, very impres- sive football club." The loss marked the end of the high school football careers for the Chargers' 13 seniors – Christian Al- vey, Alonzo Barnes, Chris- tian Benson, Clint Boger, Gavin Boyd, Te'Marion Fields, Silas Goff, Brandon Long, Zach Pancake, Tyce Sorgius, Tyler Vickers, Luke Vinnedge and Adam Wilkison. "I'm proud of our se- niors," Mattingly said. "We had 13 incredible young men who are about to em- bark on adulthood that we were very proud to have had this year as our leaders." "We've got a lot to look forward to," Mattingly add- ed. "We obviously have to get better on defense, but the core of our team, I'll al- ways be lining up and run- ning power, our top scheme. Some teams will advance and add to that. Some teams won't. This was a team that was pretty effective doing one thing but, in the end, it kind of cost us, not being more dynamic."
