The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, October 18, 2017 C- 3 has been spent feeding our- selves and becoming compla- cent. It is time to get about the Master's work. Pray for your country, our president and government, your local government, our soldiers and all pastors. Re- member to pray for the sick and afflicted and those in the nursing homes and hospitals. Be a friend to your neigh- bors, co-workers, any with whom you come into contact. To have a friend, you need to be a friend. Jesus said what you give out is what you will receive back. May you find peace and joy in your life this week. God's Servant and friend to Humanity, George Bruce, Pastor RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Continued in next column Continued on page 6 Continued from page 2 he sees their army. His fear is not necessarily of death, but of realizing that he was going without God's help. He tried praying and re- ceived no answer. He tried to find a prophet to talk to God for him. None could help him; and he even tried the Urim and The Thum- min with no answer. The law had required all the people who prac- ticed the black arts to be removed from Israel, so he was in need of any kind of help. He was told there was a woman in a Philis- tine-held city. So Saul went there in disguise to keep from being recognized. The lady was concerned for her life, but Saul assured her that there would be no punishment for her help. He asked her to bring up Samuel so Samuel could tell him what to do. This woman had no power to do what Saul wanted, but God brought Samuel and he told Saul the straight truth, that Saul's lack of humility and obedience had caused God to more or less give up on Saul, which was the rea- son for no answers to his prayers. Samuel told Saul, tomor- row Israel will be taken and Saul and his sons will be killed. Saul was now empty, with the exception of the knowledge that he had many opportunities to seek God's will in his life, but instead did things his own way. Folks, we do play a major part in our personal desti- nies and that is by having a humble heart and know- ing that we must have God's grace in our lives, if we de- sire a home in heaven. Well enough for now. As always, be blessed and be a blessing to all. Monday thru Wednesday • Starting at 7pm OCT OBE R 23, 24 & 25 Fall Revival ARTHUR GENERAL BAPTIST CHURCH 5670 S. "All nations will be gath- ered before Him, and He will separate them [the people] from one another as a shep- herd separates his sheep from the goats" (Matthew 25:32 Amplified). Sheep are gentle, yielded and trust their shepherd and follow His voice. Goats have a spirit of defiance, self-will, independent from God's in- volvement in their lives. We must self-evaluate and ask our Good Shepherd areas in our lives where we are goats. Denny Wiscaver, Pastor Pam Nutter, Reporter LIVING FAITH CHURCH INTERNATIONAL 718 E. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoic- es with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, al- ways hopes, always perse- veres. Love never fails" (I Corinthians 13:4-8). This Sunday's sermon will be titled "About Humil- ity." Scripture reading from John 13:3-7. Theme statement: Hu- mility is praise, but seldom practices. Humility is also a healing virtue; it will close a thousand wounds, which pride would keep forever open. Humility finds it hard to believe that the best way up is down. There are three essential qualities of humility taught by Jesus. 1. Lowly of heart. 2. Child-likeness. 3. A Servant Spirit. Leon Pomeroy, Pastor PETERSBURG FREE METHODIST CHURCH 202 E. "Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, 'Did God really say, you must not eat from any tree in the garden'" (Gene- sis 3:1)? We don't know all of the background as to why Satan landed on planet Earth to be a thorn in our flesh, but we all sure feel his impact and his influence. Sneaking around like a serpent, he feigned in- nocent ignorance by ques- tioning Eve about the one rule God had given her and her husband. It reminds me of the old saying "Curiosity killed the cat." This menac- ing whisper in Eve's ear put a chain of events into action and humanity's destiny was set toward sinful rebellion. When I hear a whisper that asks me to doubt God's wis- dom, I know exactly from whom it's coming. Praise God for His voice, which an- swers my doubts.
