Submit- ted Photo Deffendoll named to All-PAC team for girls' soccer By Ed Cahill Press-Dispatch Sports Editor sports@pressdispatch.net Pike Central High School senior Taylor Deffendoll has been named to the Pocket Ath- letic Conference's All-Confer- ence Team while Lady Char- ger junior Kelsey Barrett re- ceived honorable mention. This past season, Deffen- doll scored 16 goals – includ- ing six against conference opponents – as Pike Central went 4-9 -2, including 1-5 in the PAC. "I'm very happy that Tay- lor made the All-Conference Team," first-year head coach James DeCrane said. "She's a dedicated player that has com- peted for years for our school. She deserved that spot on the team." Barrett, who DeCrane de- scribed as "a phenomenal player," scored seven goals – including two against PAC foes – before spending most of the second half of the sea- son as goalkeeper following a season-ending injury to soph- omore Jenna Horrall. "I am glad that Kelsey got recognition for being a solid team player," DeCrane said. "Kelsey loves offense more than anything in the world, but, for the sake of the team, she sacrificed her personal ambitions to be a team play- er and to step into goal. For that, she has my admiration as a coach, a teacher and a fan of the sport." DeCrane said that he al- so nominated senior Autumn Pancake for the All-PAC team on defense. "She fought hard as a de- fender and has also poured her heart and soul into this team for many years," De- Crane said. "Those were the top play- ers that I nominated," De- Crane added. "I nominated a total of seven to eight players, but these are the ones that I feel deserve recognition. Even though it was a tough season, this is a young team with a lot of talent, and I ex- pect great things from them in the coming seasons." Also named to the All-Con- ference Team were Skyler Boes of Gibson Southern; Mallory Toler of South Spen- cer; Emma Louden of For- est Park; Grace Bammer of Gibson Southern; Kerragan Mulzer of Heritage Hills; Ab- igail Goings of Gibson South- ern; Danielle Perry of North Posey; Lydia Genet of Heri- tage Hills; and Denai Sicard of Forest Park. Gibson South- ern's Sophie Toth was named as the All-PAC goalie. Also receiving honorable mention were Abigail George of Heritage Hills; Claire Me- hling of Forest Park; Sam Helms of South Spencer; Kenlee Gehlhausen of For- est Park; Ericka Uebelhor of Forest Park; Kiersten Schuler of Heritage Hills; Grace Lee of Gibson Southern; and Ka- tie Rose of Gibson Southern. Heritage Hills' Lauren Cas- well received honorable men- tion at goalie. Gibson Southern finished first in the PAC, going 5 -0 while compiling a regular-sea- son record of 14-1-2. Heritage Hills was 4-1 in the PAC and 12-4 overall. Forest Park was 3-2 in the PAC and 9 -7-1 over- all. South Spencer was 2-3 in the PAC and 10 -5 -1 overall. North Posey was 2-3 in the PAC and 4-13 overall. Pike Central was 1-5 in the PAC and 4-9 -2 overall. "The PAC is a tough confer- ence with a lot of really strong teams, like Gibson Southern and Heritage Hills," DeCrane said. "I've heard that several players from Gibson Southern already have scholarships to play soccer at the collegiate level. With such a talented pool of players, competition was fierce."
