When you get a thought that comes out of nowhere and it's negative in nature, realize that the devil just stepped onto the battle- field and is throwing his fi- ery darts right into your mind. You can overcome it easy enough by taking that thought to the Word of God and speaking out the scrip- ture that negates it instead of speaking out the negative thought. This Sunday's sermon will be titled "Words of Bless- ing." Scripture reading from Genesis 48:1-5. Theme statement: There are countless wonderful ways to use your words. God moves in a mysterious way His wonders to perform like how He used words of blessing. The lesson is clear- ly taught for us above all to seek the blessing of God. There are three keys in us- ing words of blessing. 1. Acknowledge the pow- er of blessing. 2. Accept the Word of God. 3. Access the Word of Faith. Leon Pomeroy, Pastor from 1-6 p.m. for preschool through grade six. So many trials come in- to our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be add- ed? God's order back into our lives—a peace that pass- es all understanding—He is in control. Questions regarding church events, call 812-582- 8896. Mailing Address: P.O. Box 11, Petersburg, IN 47567. Sunday morning worship service at 10 a.m. with Sun- day school classes at 10 :45 a.m.; Every other Tuesday night, prayer at 7 p.m. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace and others. Joy is what I want to speak about. We look in the world we live today and we find people who seem to not have any joy. Then you look at the church world and we find people with no joy. They go about life with a sour look on their faces, a bad disposi- tion, and sometimes a don't care attitude. The world is looking for a difference and we as Christians need to show that there is a differ- ence. When we allow God and His Word to penetrate our lives then we will have the joy of the Spirit. When in Winslow drive by and see what God is doing. Pray for your country, our president and government, your local government, our soldiers and all pastors. Re- member to pray for the sick and afflicted and those in the nursing homes and hos- pitals. Be a friend to your neigh- bors, co-workers, any with whom you come into con- tact. The solar eclipse took place in the United States on Monday, August 21. It's a big deal because one hasn't been visible from the continental United States in 37 years and one hasn't passed over the country in almost 100 years. A solar eclipse happens when the moon passes be- tween the sun and the Earth, blocking out a significant chunk of the sun's rays. So what does the Bi- ble have to say about this strange natural occurrence? There's passages scat- tered throughout scripture that talk about the sun being blacked out or darkness de- scending on the land. Sounds kind of like an eclipse, right? "And on that day," de- clares the Lord God, "I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight" (Amos 8:9, ESV ). There are times in our lives when day turns into night, but God always bring the light back. This is just one of God's promises. We invite all of you to come and worship with us.
