When police investigat- ed, they found a runaway 14-year-old girl from Bloom- ington in the vehicle with a 25 -year-old male and an 18 -year-old male, both who were arrested on drug relat- ed charges. Charles Burris, Jr., 18, of Bloomington, was arrested by Petersburg Police Cpl. Jared Simmons on prelimi- nary charges of possession of methamphetamine, less than five grams, a level 6 fel- ony, possession of parapher- nalia and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Jessup Smith, 25, also of Bloomington, was arrested on a preliminary charge of possession of marijuana. Cpl. Simmons, in his re- port, stated he was assist- ing Pike County Sheriff's Sgt. Dallas Killian, who had stopped a vehicle that he no- ticed driving backwards on Cherry St. at 3:36 a.m. Cpl. Simmons said he talked with Smith, who was the backseat passenger, and immediately noticed a black and red mar- ijuana smoking device and could smell odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. According to Sim- mons' report, Smith said the device was his. Simmons said during a search of the vehicle, they found a spoon with meth residue on it in the driver's door. Burris told police his car had been stolen recent- ly and the spoon wasn't his. A third passenger in the vehicle was a 14-year-old girl from Monroe County. Simmons said while they were running checks on them, they found out the girl was a runaway from Monroe County. Her parents were notified and picked her up. Burris failed field sobriety tests and was taken to Da- viess Community Hospital, where he tested positive for benzodiazepines and mari- juana. Burris and Smith were taken into custody. Two arrested in meth bust Pike County will conduct a tax sale on Wednesday, Au- gust 30, 2017, for delinquent real properties that have tax- es and special assessments due from the prior year's spring installment. In Indiana, the county treasurer and auditor are required to sell tax liens on delinquent properties. Pike County will offer these tax sale certificates at a public auction for a minimum bid that is not less than the to- tal amount due in delinquent taxes, costs, special assess- ments and penalties. "The purpose of the tax sale is to offer these delinquent prop- erties to collect back taxes to help fund local govern- ment services," said Coun- ty Auditor Ronald Wilson. Marta Query, Pike Coun- ty Treasurer, said, "There are 204 properties available, totaling $214,910 in delin- quencies." Pike County has contract- ed with SRI, Inc., an India- napolis-based company that conducts tax sales, commis- sioners' certificate sales, deed sales and sheriff's sales for over 150 counties in Indiana, Michigan, Col- orado, Louisiana and Iowa. Persons interested in reg- istering and bidding at the Pike County Tax Sale should visit the SRI website at www. sriservices.com and read the information provided regarding tax sales.
