Area firemen fought fast moving field fire Sunday Area firemen battled a fast moving field fire for about three hours Sunday afternoon in windy condi- tions. Petersburg Fire Cap- tain Jeff Nelson said the fire was located near the 44-mile marker along I-69 and start- ed in manure piles. "We just tried to keep it out of the woods," said Nelson. He said it burned about 40 acres of field, but firemen were able to prevent it from getting in- to a nearby wooded area, despite the strong winds. "It was a hot fire. When the wind picked up, the flames would reach 20 to 30 feet high," said Nelson. Petersburg was assist- ed by Patoka and Jefferson Township. They had four brush trucks, two fire en- gines and four tankers. It was reported at about 3:30 p.m. Life Milestones made free CALL: 812-354-8500 Put a free photo with write up on Births or upcoming Card Showers.
