This week PAWS is fea- turing a shy little kitten named Zippy, who was abandoned in a dump- ster and her life was barely spared before be- ing crushed with trash. We are most grateful for the many generous donations we received, for the participation in events by various civic and student groups, and for the diligence of workers—Ruritan members as well as members of the community— all these together make our event a great success. For the past 60 years (and for many years to come!) we happily provide enjoyable, family-friendly activities for our guests who come and eat good food, see good entertainment, and make memories for a lifetime. We honor the National Ruritan creed of "Fellowship, Goodwill, and Community." Thank You A heartfelt ank You to all the dear family, friends, and church family who attended my 90th birthday party as well as to all of you who sent beautiful cards. I always say that every day is a good day, and my special birthday was a good day indeed! God Bless You, Mrs. Norma Meadors Thank You "Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye de- sire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them" (Mark 11:24). This week at Mt. Olive General Baptist, we learned about God's love and what it really means to have uncon- ditional love for the Lord as well as each other. We have several exciting events coming up at Mt. Ol- ive this week. The community is invited to join us at Hornady Park on Saturday, August 26, at 4 p.m. for a picnic and gospel sing. Our church will pro- vide food and everyone is in- vited to bring an instrument and/or their voice to join in. On Sunday, August 27, we will be having a baptism immediately following our morning service. A pitch-in dinner will follow. We will not have Sunday evening groups this week, as we will be spending most of the day at the church. We have kicked off our Sunday evening separate mens/womens/children groups. They are all going great and we are having a wonderful time. The men are studying Revelation and the women are learn- ing about the Bible's stance on being an emotionally healthy woman. Join us for any or all of the activities our church hosts. We love to see new faces. Come by for a visit. We will save you a seat. Alex Benefiel, Pastor Crystal Benefiel, Reporter MT. PISGAH G.B. "Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth" (Matthew 5:5). No person is meek by na- ture. We insist on our own way (even if we are mild mannered in nature), and if anyone blocks our paths we react with hurt, anger resentment, and even re- venge. Moses was meek, but he was not meek by na- ture. God worked meekness into his life over a forty year- year period. Peter was certainly not meek by nature. He was im- petuous, saying and doing the first thing that came in- to his mind. But little by lit- tle, the Holy Spirit of God transformed Peter after the resurrection of Jesus. Be- fore his conversion, Paul was not meek. His job was to persecute Christians. Yet Paul wrote to the church at Galatia, "the fruit of the Spirit is gentleness, good- ness and meekness" (Gala- tia 5:22-23). If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. I'm sure you will leave feeling blessed. Jerry "Tuffy" Blackwell, Pastor Sharon Kendall, Reporter NEW LIBERTY G.B. Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord. (Prov- erbs 16:20). Wow, what a strong set of verses. We all know that when God corrects, it is out of love. But that does not make it any easier to take. In addition, taking instruc- tion without getting offend- ed is almost impossible to do as well. I personally think of God as a parent (after all he is our heaven- ly father). A parent almost always has the best in mind and heart for you and your future. Is it wrong to say that most of the time when you listen to the wisdom of your parent, you do better in life and "prosper? " A lot GOSPEL CENTER CHURCH Independent Baptist Church 420 E. Denny Wiscaver, Pastor Pam Nutter, Reporter Independent of the time, we forget that God loves us so much that he corrects us and gives us the instruction or direction that we need to do better in life.
