Rebecca Smith Staff Writer Page 5 January 27, 2017 Amanda Waugh Cartoonist Arts and Entertainment I highly recommend playing Sister Location if you like FNAF! 'Split' exhibits multiple angles 'Split,' directed and written by M. Night Shyamalan and starring Kevin Crumb, was released into the U.S on January 20, 2017. 'FNAF: Sister Location' awes several players 'Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location,' developed and published by Scott Cawthon, breaks the tradition usually used in the Five Nights at Freddy's 'series by allowing the player to interact with the animatronics on a new level such as repairs or the unforgettable jump scare. The player is able to travel through vents, and dark rooms guided by an ominous female voice that apparently belongs to an animatronic itself. There are many Easter Eggs that are available in the Circus Baby's Pizza World and if you are anything like me you probably watched the famous Youtuber Markiplier play through it for a better understanding and because you are probably a fan just like me. Typically in the 'Five Nights at Freddy's' series the player furiously has to stay in the security room making sure you have enough power to last you until 6am by not closing the doors for too long or using the tablet. If you fail to keep the power on until 6am murderous animatronics stuff you into a suit and you have to restart that level. Of course there is more than one way to die in the game but if you are skilled enough then you don't have to worry too much. In the Sister Location after you complete a level you are able to play minigames and discover mysteries on the truth behind the animatronics. Subterranean maintenance rooms are set far below ground with a network of access vents joining them together, and a reliance on electric shocks and unspecified "procedures" to keep the robots behaving fairly. The Destructoid says, "Sister Location keeps things moving and delivers fresh thrills throughout the entire work week. The different tasks lead to some fantastic moments and genuinely spooky scenarios such as trying to repair a circuit breaker with Funtime Freddy creeping up on you every time you look away." However, there was a problem on the largely ranged difficulties on different nights. The range in difficulties can either make the player feel as if it's way too easy to play or a level that requires several attempts with the little belief that one may succeed. I personally love the FNAF series because I enjoy the thrill of being scared and I recommend the game to those who are interested. 'Cinder' interests viewers with many aspects 'Cinder,' written by Marissa Meyers is a fast-paced novel that spins a classic fairy tale into a futuristic science-fiction that is hard to put down. 'Cinder' is a modern-day retelling of Cinderella set on Earth and the moon after the fourth World War. 'Cinder' is the first of many books in 'The Lunar Chronicles.' It was also officially published in January of 2013. The main character, Cinder, is a renowned 16-year-old girl mechanic who can fix any device no matter how difficult the problem; however, she is partially successful due to the fact she is part cyborg. Living in the dirty streets of New Beijing, Eastern Commonwealth with an awful and greedy stepmother and two stepsisters is not easy for Cinder, especially when she has to fix an android for prince Kai in secret. Her world is turned upside down when the world wide epidemic plague takes her stepsister, and Cinder's stepmother volunteers her as a test subject to find a cure. However, testing in labs reveal that Cinder is no ordinary girl or cyborg; she's Lunar. The Lunar people are the inhabitants with magical mind-twisting abilities in a large colony on the moon, and they are ruled by the evil q u e e n L e v a n a w h o wants to take over the world, s t a r t i n g with the E a s t e r n C o m m - onwealth. I t ' s illegal for Lunars to immigrate to Earth, and the queen will be livid if she finds out someone has defied her. Even worse, prince Kai is holding the annual peace ball for Earth, and he's asked Cinder to the ball. Levana wants Kai's power to bec-ome e m p - ress, and she's got an adva- n t a g e K a i c a n ' t p a s s up: the antidote to the plague. As time races for-ward to the ball, Cinder discovers more about her past and her new powers as she tries to save Kai and Earth from Queen Levana's grasp. With the help of her android Iko and the secretly-in-hiding Dr. Erland, Cinder uses her powers, wit, and cyborg brain to stop Queen Levana before it's too late. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who is interested in a diverse mix of fairy tales and science-fiction, and following books in the Lunar Chronicles series are just as adventuresome and action- packed as the first. The book changes points of views throughout the book as they struggle to keep justice. Many different secrets are kept within keep you reading until finished. This is a great book for teens who enjoy dystopian novels that has a plethora of romance, action, and adventure included. I highly recommended this captivating read that extends into a four-part storyline that includes other fantasy stories. " ... a great book for teens who enjoy dystopian novels with romance, action, and adventure..." 'Underworld: Blood Wars' 'Underworld: Blood Wars,' directed by Anna Foerster is the 5th movie in the Underworld series. Selene continues to try to put an end to the war between Lycans and Vampires. The movie starts off with Selene being chased by Lycans who are searching for her daughter. Her daughter, Eve, is wanted for the pureness in her blood. Her blood is said to hold unique magical abilities. Though to her luck the character David, played by Theo James, comes to her rescue. David being one of the only characters she can 'CARROT Alarm' humors users rely on, except for David's father Thomas. Thomas, played by Charles Dance becomes a key role in getting the counsel to forgive Selene, for she had previously broken the law by being with a Lycan and killing one of her own. Selene is tasked to train the future military force, but in the end this leads to a possible deadly surprise. David is forced to save her once more and they both f lee, leaving David's father behind to take care of business. They are looked down upon as traders and the counsel asks for them to be captured alive. Selene and David work their way to a sanctuary where Selene is led to a world beyond the living. David is given a bigger role than in the previous movies and in the end, he takes over the screen, that is up until Selene spontaneously shows up. The movie leaves the audience to use their imagination regarding the mystery behind Eve's blood. Not only was this movie like the past Underworld movies, but it barely brought anything new to the table. That is besides some discoveries and unexpected turn of events. If you liked watching Kate Beckinsale in tight black fitted outfits doing cool combat scenes like in the previous movies, then this movie is for you. Having trouble waking up for school or other events in the morning? Do you wish to have your mornings controlled by a malevolent yet charming artificial intelligence? If you answered yes to both questions, then CARROT is the perfect alarm clock app for you. 'CARROT' ($2.99, for iOS) is an alarm clock with attitude that contains a hilariously twisted AI construct which wants nothing more than for you to simply get out of bed in the morning. Each morning, 'CARROT' asks you to complete a few bizarre yet comical tasks, such as f lipping your device upside-down to mix a deadly neurotoxin or to shake your device to clean out the lab monkey cages. Once you've completed said tasks each morning, you progressively level up to unlock new songs, app upgrades, and, yes, even bedtime stories. I've personally been using 'CARROT' on-and-off for nearly 3 years and still enjoy using it. There's nothing better than waking up to a threat that your country will be nuked if you continue to sleep in; additionally the fact that she will (yes, 'CARROT' IS a she) bribe you with ice cream for breakfast if you complete her assigned tasks or threaten to kill a kitten if you hit the snooze button again. Given that I'm someone with a quite dark and sarcastic sense of humor, I find the app's snarky remarks and ridiculous threats to be humorous; some who are a bit on the wholesome or positive side of humor may want to steer clear of this app. If you can stomach the $2.99 price tag (which is well worth it in retrospect), 'CARROT' is a great, feature-heavy alarm clock that will not only successfully wake you up but also provide some witty dark humor along the way. This is my favorite alarm clock app to use especially if I have an important task to complete the next day or morning. But if you do choose to get this app, whatever you do, don't fall back asleep. You'll make her angry. Very angry. contains a mysterious plot Stephanie Pena Staff Writer Katie Louisell Staff Writer Caden Moniz Staff Writer A feature-heavy alarm clock with a dark sense of humor. It was worth watching. A suspenseful and interesting movie that keeps you hooked. A fast-paced and great book that keeps you reading. On January 20, famed horror movie producer, M. Night Shyamalan released his newest movie 'Split,' to United States theaters so that all horror lovers could experience the thrill his movie provided to viewers. The main protagonist of 'Split' is teenager Casey Cook (Anya Taylor-Joy), a female who is affected by a traumatic past which causes her to be secluded and quiet; the main antagonist is zoo worker Kevin Wendell Grump (James McAvoy), a male who is a victim of DID (dissociative identity disorder) and childhood abuse. In the beginning of 'Split,' you witness Casey at a birthday party with her two classmates, Claire (Haley Lu Richardson) and Marcia (Jessica Sula). Near the end of the party, Claire's father offers to give Casey and Marcia a ride home with Claire tagging along. The girls accept, and on a stop on the way home, Claire's father is attacked and the girls are abducted by "Dennis", one of Kevin's twenty-four different personalities. The girls are then held captive in an underground cellar. As I watched 'Split,' I thought James McAvoy's performance was outstanding. He acted out the multiple personalities of Kevin almost perfectly. He could go from a deep voiced male aff licted with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) to a nine year old kid with a lisp. Then Anya Taylor- Joy did perfectly as playing the secluded and quiet girl with a traumatic past. The fact that her appearance and lack of emotion in her tone in most of her voice lines fit her character perfectly worked out great. I believe M. Night Shyamalan produced a horror movie that both hard core and new horror fans will love. 'Split' was a thrilling movie that kept the suspense going the whole time, but also was able to add horror within its aspects. 'Split' is a movie that won't drag on and will always keep you on the hook. I never once felt that the movie was being dragged along. While although I am a horror wimp, I greatly enjoyed this movie and would recommend it to anyone. The MacGuffin.in
