twitter over her speech. Donald Trump has been branded as a man child in my mind. Someone please take his phone away so he doesn't make himself look like more of a fool than he already is. Another aspect of the speech which really got to me is when Meryl was talking about how violence prays on violence, how hate feeds off of hate. It couldn't be truer. We have it pretty good here in California. Racism isn't very prominent, but with the things I've been seeing from the southern part of the country, lord help everyone. It's like racists aren't afraid to be racist ever since his campaign. speech when Donald Trump mocked a disabled reporter. It is unacceptable to do so to another human being who would be seen lower than he is in many aspects, and that should not even be allowed of a president/one who is running. If it were a regular person on the street, they would most likely be bombarded with angry remarks because it is bullying. I am not saying people did not respond in the way they should've, but you had his supporters saying, "Oh, that's just Trump" or "We need someone like that in office." It's pathetic. Of course, as he always does, he threw a temper tantrum on Aly Smith Staff Writer Stephanie Pena Staff Writer "We can't wait for the problems to fix themselves." This should be alarming to read because all the shares, comments and reactions probably tricked more than three out of every four adults. This effects children, teens and the elderly as well. An issue many have is identifying the credibility of a source. If the same facts are mentioned in at least three versions of the story, then it is likely safe to trust the given source. The main problem even with this fact-checking method are the statistics listed above. If nearly half of the politics stories are fake, then even this method fails us. It is time to take a stand against fake news and that's why in The Bluffer we state where our facts are from. We are committed to the truth and the value of that truth, which is why we don't play it down for our readers. News is history, but it needs to be actual history rather than a collection of unrealistic events. Should the fake news pandemic continue its spread, all known sources of information will have to be called into question, a time- consuming process people don't have time for. It is time to bring the fake news to justice with the truth. Staff Editorial The negative effect of fake news... For several months now, there have been rants on social media and reports of fake news running rampant throughout the country. As a newspaper that promotes the truth and the meaning of the truth, this "fake news" worries us. When there are multiple versions of the same story, the sources must be credible. Credible sources not just the obvious facts but also interviewees, websites and even books if necessary. If the sources on these versions of the same story aren't credible, then getting the facts can become a game of telephone. Perhaps most importantly, when the facts aren't credible or the news itself is entirely fake, it devalues the truth of the matter. The true meaning of a piece of news becomes blurred and then people might choose to believe differently, meaning that they would believe the fake news articles instead of what a credible article reports. According to expandedramlings.com, a statistics website backed by Reuters, fake news headlines about our presidential elections tricked adults 75% of the time in their survey. Students support Biden's Medal of Freedom honor L ast Thursday President Obama spoke from the heart as he gave the Medal of Freedom, which although has been received many times in the past is still a great honor, to Vice President Joe Biden. The previous 21 recipients some of which you may be familiar with such as Ellen DeGeneres, or Tom Hanks have been given this honor for especially meritorious contribution to (1) the security or national interests of the United States, or (2) world peace, or (3) cultural or other significant public or private endeavors. However, Joe Biden did not see his receiving as deserving, he believes that his receiving shows the ref lection of President Obama's extent of generosity in his spirit, but will accept the honor because he knows it's from the President's heart. I disagree with that statement because I know and understand that he is a respectable man who has captured the respect and love from many not just as a Vice President but as a person. He is an incredible deserving man of this honor and as President says, "If you can't admire Joe Biden as a person you've got a problem. He's as good a man as God ever created." President Obama presented the award to Biden because of his faith in our country, his love for all of us, and for the lifetime of service to this country he has given to us, and that touches our lives in these grueling times. We couldn't agree and support this more! Prejudice reigns T he main focus of this year was who is going to lead our country; while we need to be focusing on the people within the country. The United States of America is in a sad state. There are a plethora of d i f f e r e n t conditions that our country would benefit from if resolved: racism, violence and lack of respect. Racism is all throughout the country. It's in every state, public school and most households. If we can look past each other's skin colors and backgrounds then we may be able to come together as a nation; however, the solution starts with us. We can't wait for the problems to fix themselves. The fixing of the dilemmas would start by listening and understanding other people. The violence in America seems to be on a never ending roller coaster. Just as the country seems to be getting along, a major aggression takes place. Solving the problem of violence would take the most time and effort. Finally, the lack of respect in the United States is mainly in the millennial generation. While they should be focused on building a successful career and doing well in school; they are getting distracted and ruining not only their lives, but the lives around them. Hence, if the people in America take action about understanding the people around them and not only caring about themselves, but also other people. The condition would be concluded. Soulja Boy A fter going back and forth on 'Twitter' and 'Instagram' earlier in January, rapper Soulja Boy has declared that he will be entering boxing match with music artist Chris Brown in March. It has been confirmed that former boxer Mike Tyson is going to train Chris Brown for the fight. The event was initially set to debut as a Floyd Mayweather promotion, but Soulja Boy later decided to take his own route and set up the event himself. He claimed that the event will take place on his own terms and will be entirely paid for. In a storm of tweets on January 17, Soulja stated "You need tickets hit me. I'm running the show (Soulja)". I personally think that it seems quite suspicious that Soulja Boy dropped all promotion deciding to host the fight himself and ask his fans for money. It has traces of feeling like a scam; all it takes is Soulja Boy receiving money from his fans and "cancelling" the fight for a "miscellaneous" or unknown reason. Additionally, the fight's chances of actually occurring and taking place are minimal, with law enforcement possibly shutting down any attempt of an event that isn't promoted and properly hosted. On top of it all, the fight is beginning to appear as one large PR stunt for both rappers to get both back into the news. The constant change of event details, release of diss tracks (including one by Mike Tyson) and hostile tweets keeps both rappers at the top of news feeds, generating more press for them and plays for their music. Nevertheless, we will have to wait until March to see if the fight occurs, but until then we are all sitting ducks. Twins are W ith all the things that are taking place now some would say that it's as if the world turns for the worst, but with all the controversial events we are still allowed to smile and look forward to brighter news. Identical twins Audrey Doering and Gracie Rainsberry have a lot to smile about. Having been born in China, both girls were separated during infancy and adopted by different families in the United States. Neither family knowing that the daughter they adopted had a twin sister. That is until December of 2016 when Audrey asked her mother, Jennifer Doering, for a sister. The mother instead wanted to give Audrey a copy of the "finding ad" there was of her as a baby. Finding the photo for her daughter did come with a surprise. It was Audrey Doering and identical Gracie Rainsberry, both infants sitting together on the lap of their Chinese foster mother. With this, Jennifer Doering got a hold of Gracie's mother. When the girls were told the news, they were extremely shocked and happy. They agreed to communicate through FaceTime. Their first encounter in person took place on Good Morning America, and it was a heartfelt moment for not only them, but for everyone who watched it. This will forever stay one of the most memorable moments of their life. It is something to smile about. It brings the world a touch of glow during doubt. T he year has been started off with some good and bad situations already. Carrie Fisher, a beloved actor passed away, but we carried on with the Golden Globe Awards. The internet blew up with videos and clips of Meryl Streep, a very talented woman, and her Golden Globe speech. She talked about Donald Trump and how he used fear- mongering for a platform, and how it was an absolute disgrace that such a disrespectful man has been given access to one of the most powerful seats in this country, and I couldn't agree with her more. Meryl Streep was able to state facts is a graceful and respectable away. Something, we, as a society, need a lot more of. She brings to light in her I did my research so as not to look dumb, but it is proven more hate crimes have happened since he's risen in rank in this country. It's just sad that a man that should be of the utmost respect can just sit and bully other people, minorities, etc. and get away with it. We need more people like Meryl Streep, people who aren't afraid to voice their opinion in a respectable fashion, and with utmost dignity. reunited after two adoptions Speech displays Trump's raises fight suspicions News Editors Lexi Pritchard Julissa Villalobos unacceptable behavior
