Bru ucee Camp's w FISHING REPORT FISHING REPOR Can we all agree this is some of the craziest weather ever? Rain and cold, rain and warmer than normal, cold for a few days and way above normal for most of a week. This is more like, I don't know, November or February. Fishing is good one week and awful the next and they aren't even close to being in a winter pattern. I did hear of a 20 and a half pound 5 bass limit coming out of Lake Norman a week or so ago. WOW, that's amazing anytime of year. We had some thunder one night last week. Old wives tale says snow within 10 days (some say 7 some say 10). Ask your mom or grandmother, they can tell you. I will believe it when I see it. Bass clubs will not start back up until February. However, they are still having winter tournaments on Lake Norman. Good turnouts and pretty good catches most weeks. Anybody catching any crappie? My dad wants to go get some for a fish fry, email me or call me and hook me up. He is 88 and I will not get to take him much more, would love to get him out on one of the better days and catch a few. Alabama Rig! Is this the hottest and most talked about bait ever? Have you seen them? Do you have one? I saw where BASS Elite anglers will not be allowed to use them, and some states even ban the use of them. Still they are the most talked about bait I can remember in years. If you have some good info on tournaments coming up, results or questions, email me. Lets get the info out there. Have a safe weekend. If anyone has any suggestions on stories or pictures of their catch or kill, you can e-mail me at plail5@carolina.rr.com. BIRD LEVELS If you would like to attract a wider variety of birds to your bird feeders you need to create a feeding environment that best imitates the birds natural feeding habitat. Seeds placed on the ground or in feeding trays emulate the natural habitat of meadows and fields for towhees, quail, juncos and sparrows. Forest birds like chickadees, titmice, finches, nuthatches and woodpeckers that are used to clinging to limbs as they forage for food will be attracted to tube and wooden feeders as well as suet feeders hung from trees or mounted on poles. Birds that you can attract to ground, platform and elevated feeders include cardinals, grosbeaks and bluejays who are used to living in marginal habitats and forest edges and feeding both on the ground and in trees. By Gary Miller By Several years ago, it was not unusual to make one or two trips per week to wade the Cherokee Lake. Late winter always proved to hold enough of the bass variety to keep me fi shing even in the most extreme conditions. These trips usually only lasted about half of the day and since I kept my equipment in my truck, I only needed a short notice and a good excuse. I can remember one day arriving at a favorite spot in the mid afternoon. It was cold and blustery, and even though I had dressed warm, the cold air was blow- ing hard in my face. It was a headwind that was so strong, casting was diffi cult. I fought the circumstances for about an hour before I gave in and decided to go elsewhere. A few hundred yards behind me was a small unexciting place, but the wind would be to my back and blocked somewhat by the hills on one side. There, in that area, were little dead stick weeds that were scattered throughout. They may hold a bass but there were now only a couple of hours left before dark. In those two hours I caught six lar- gemouth and all were keeper size. I was so excited about that new little spot that I made plans to return the next day; ear- COME SEE THE EXPERTS ...get out & enjoy nature! Gary Miller Aiming Outdoorsmen Aiming Outdoorsmen Toward Christ oward Christ lier and with a friend. That next afternoon did not disappoint us. When the smoke had cleared we had landed twenty-one bass over fi fteen inches long. Just two days before I had cursed the wind and the circumstance it had put me in. I had complained of the diffi culties and obstacles that I was facing. I had fought against the prospects of leaving the familiar and comfortable place that I knew, for the unknown, untested, and unappealing. But to get to the most fruit- ful area, I had to be forced out of my safe and secure confi nes. I had to "cast my nets on the other side." This is how God works many times in our lives when He wants to get more out of our lives or when He is looking for someone to serve in a certain way or place. He simply makes the place that we're in too hard to bear. He makes the going so tough that we have no other choice than to look in other areas. It's one of the ways that God uses to get you from where you are now to where He wants you to be. Don't fi ght to stay. If you do, you will miss the good that God has for you in unexpected places. www outdoortruths.or TRUCKING 704-739-4747 www.kernstrucking.com 703 S.
