December 9, 2011 Arts and Entertainment 4 TFFC simplifies sticking to your resolution Gym offers eighty-five different classes, a nice facility, and an indoor pool all in a convenient location Mayson Trujillo Guest Writer It's that time of year again. A time of giving and receiving, catching up with relatives, and, of course, eating the delicious traditional holiday treats. Even the strongest willed people hesitate when asked if they want another mouth-watering serving of their favorite dish; however, most people devour the food and think nothing of it, that is, until they step on the scale around New Years and swear to themselves that they will go to the gym more often. But which gym to choose? Tehama Family Fitness Center at 2498 S Main St is a very good choice. TFFC has eighty-five free weekly classes like Zumba and Body Burner. The locally owned gym has a well equipped cardio zone with an ample amount of treadmills, ellipticals, and stationary bikes along with stair steppers and rowing machines. TFFC also Real Pro * Fresh Scent * Fun Tradition * Provides sea- sonal jobs * Authentic looking * Unique variety to choose from Photos by Mayson Trujillo Photos were taken at Tehama Family Fitness Center December 6, 2011. has a full size basketball court, free weights, a heated indoor pool, and another room of free weights for those who want to be more discreet about their work out. The gym also has other attractions for those who want s. to relax. The fitness center has a sauna/steam room for free as well as tanning, massage therapy, esthetics (facials, peels, microdermabrasion, and waxing) for an additional fee. v Fake Pro * Easy to as- semble * Not messy * Less expensive in the long run *Lasts more than a year * No maintenance Apart from the facility itself being great, TFFC also a strong staff of perfessional that provide individualized treatment to its members. TFFC has many qualified, licensed athletic trainers, exercise physiologists, physical therapists, and physical therapy assistants, one of which is Lonnie Scott, Red Bluff High School's ROP Theraputic Services Teacher Out of the several times I have gone to TFFC there have always been open cardio machines and basketball hoops and the employees and specialists have been welcoming and helpful. The only facility that is in need of improvements is the indoor pool. The pool is only 20 yards long- a standard short-course pool is 25 yards long- and only has three lanes. One of which is designated for walking. Overall, Tehama Family Fitness Center is a large, well outfitted gym with plenty of activities with many friendly specialists that are there for you, but if you're planning to go to TFFC to swim, I would advise you to call ahead because the availability of the cramped pool is hit and miss. Gym offers diverse classes and equipment to solidify your New Year's resolution. 'Inkheart' a thrilling, interesting novel with a very wide appeal Rebecca Blanchard Guest Writer Written by Cornelia Funke, "Inkheart" is a thrilling novel truly worth reading. The dark black atmosphere with terrify- ing mountains fits the books plot perfectly. "Inkheart" is the story of what might happen if charac- ters came out of a book, and if some characters went in. However, it is a rather long book, which you will likely become extremely interested in. The story doesn't end af- ter this book though; the near 600 page novel has two other books that follow. With an assortment of By: Claire Samay Bluffer G 1.) Money 2.) Car 3.) iPhone 4.) Laptop 5.) Shoes 100 different students were polled to find out what students want the most this Christmas. Their answers were listed from 1 to 10. Poll taken by Michael DeFonte characters, it will interest most any reader; whether it is Elinor, a grump book hoarder, the mys- terious Dustfinger, the villainess Capricorn or the loveable adven- turous Meggie who defies the rules to save the ones she cares about. If Meggie didn't defy her father, Mo, and come to a danger- ous village that is surrounded by deadly stories about it, the book would have been very short. Meggie however, along with Eli- nor and Dustfinger, drove to the him, they encounter Capricorn almost five minutes after arriv- ing in the village. Simple as that, they were surprised by a literal meaning of the word "cage". Yet, with a simple meeting with someone they hoped to see, Meggie found the courage she needed and overcame the odds. With many twists and turns, this novel is never dull. The book does, however, have a few setbacks: with the amount of twists and turns in darkened town and the adven- ture continued step after step. Instead of meeting the villain later, and leading up to finding the book, it does lack some consistency. It isn't very no- ticeable, but you might be a tad confused, the surprises are worth it though. The characters face just as many inner conflicts as outer conflicts. At many moments Meggie is unsure whether to trust some of her newly formed alliances. Eli- nor is unsure what should come first: people or books, and Mo must learn to trust his daughter and believe in her abilities. Dustfinger is nervous, and guilt bound by the decision to put someone much younger, smaller and less experienced in such life threatening danger. In the end, all of the characters make their decisions, whether it is the right one or the wrong one. Each decision is an impor- tant one, as it leads to the next twist. This novel is truly worth reading. A few setbacks but a great novel overall. 6.) Jacket 8) iPad 7.) Plasma T.V. 9.) iPod 10.) Knife t i i l f s t
