Lincolnton Lions Club During the month of November, several area businesses have teamed up with the Lincolnton Lions Club by agreeing to display a Lions Club collection box for their customers to deposit can goods and non-perishable items for Christian Ministry of Lincoln County. Those Lincoln County businesses participating in the Lions Club Food Drive include: Duncan's Auto, 1116-B E. Main St.; The Drug Store, 9576 NC Hwy. 10 West in Vale; Lincoln Printing Services, 2303 E. Main St; Maiden Seafood, Old Hwy. 321 in Lincolnton. Christian Ministry of Lincoln County's Food Pantry desperately needs all types of beans, cereal, grits, oatmeal, dried beans, detergent, rice, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti and bars of soap, kleenex and toilet tissue. South Mountain State Park Saturday, November 12 - "Skulls and Skins" - Look for a Park Ranger and his inter- esting display of skulls and skins at the Visitor Center. Cleveland Rutherford Kidney Association Events The Cleveland-Rutherford Kidney Association is sponsoring the 2011 Holiday Home Tour on Saturday, December 10 - 10 am to 4 pm. City Of Kings Mountain The City of Kings Mountain is calling for all veterans to join the annual Kings Mountain Veterans' Parade to be held on Friday, November 11. The parade will begin at 10AM at the War Memorial in front of the Joy Performance Center and continue through town on Gold Street to the Veterans' Memorial at Mountain Rest Cemetery. There will also be awards given to the best fl oats in six different categories: Corporate, Small Business, Service Organization, Church, Most Artistic and Best Overall. The parade will be videotaped and will be shown on C-19, the Cleveland Community College Public Access channel. Greater Shelby Community Theatre, "Forever Plaid" Auditions for 50's musical "Forever Plaid" Greater Shelby Community Theatre announces auditions for the popular 4-man musical "Forever Plaid". If you have visited Carillon during the Christmas season in the past, you already know that they go all out. They will be having their annual Doorway to the Holidays event and are now taking door reservations! This gives you or your business/organization an oppor- tunity to adopt and decorate a designated door in the Carillon build- ing. You will be permitted to post a sign with your logo, as well, giv- ing you some PR. The only cost associated with adopting a door is what you use to decorate it. They ask that all doors be decorated by November 30th.On December 15th, Carillon will host the Doorway to the Holidays party. Residents, family members, and the community will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite door. Refreshments will be served and awards will be issued to the winning door(s)' cre- ators! Carillon Assisted Living of Shelby will be hosting an educational seminar for Veterans and their families regarding Aid & Attendance, a VA benefi t available to veterans and spouses to assist with senior care. Southern Christmas Show with Shelby City Park Shelby City Park will sponsor a trip to the Southern Christmas Show at the Park (former- ly Charlotte Merchandise Mart) on Monday, November 14. The bus will leave from the parking lot at Rutherfordton Senior Center at 8:00 a.m. and from Shelby City Park at 8:30 a.m. They will leave Charlotte around 4:00 p.m. and be back to the park around 5 p.m. Cost is $17 per person, due when signing up. This includes the transportation (by Travel Lynx) and the cost of the ticket. Tickets will be given out that morning on the bus. Life Enrichment Center Candlelight Service Everyone who has been affected by a diagnosis of dementia is invited to a short candlelight service to honor and remember those with dementia. The service will be held at Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Care in Shelby Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 5:30 p.m. The service is held annually during November, which is Alzheimer's Awareness Month, but includes all causes of dementia. For a few minutes before the service, Andrew Grooms of BrightStar will explain a new program for families to keep in touch through the internet, sim- ilar to FaceBook. It is a good way for distant family or large families who would like to communicate about a loved one's illness. A free sit- ter service is hosted by Life Enrichment for the person with dementia. A reservation must be made for the sitter service by Nov. 8 by calling 704.484.0405. No reservation is required to attend the meeting. For more information, call Linda at the number above. Journey Partnership For End-Of-Life Issues Free Movie Join Journey Partnership For End-Of-Life Issues for a free movie on Thursday, November 17, at Don Gibson Theatre, 318 S. Washington St., Shelby. A reception will be held from 5:30 pm-6:30 pm. The movie "Consider The Conversation" will follow the reception. This free movie is sponsored by members of Journey. "Journey, Partnership for End-of-Life Issues ", is a coalition of over 20 local organizations that focuses on the education of the people of Cleveland County about end of life choices, support of caregivers, and healthcare con- cerns.
