The Nintendo Wii mental stimulation, which can ward off or slow down age related dementia; excellent socialization opportunities, wonderful exercise (even if you play sitting down), and a wagon load of fun, just to name a few. (Please be aware that the Wii system employs a type one laser and therefore cannot be used by persons with a pacemaker for their heart.) Join the Neal Senior Center, located at 100 TR Harris Drive, Shelby, to experience the fun of the Nintendo Wii every Tuesday and Wednesday morning beginning at 8:30 and then again on Wednesday afternoons from 1:30-4:30 pm. Among the games available at the Senior Center are Bowling, Tennis, Golf, Baseball, Boxing, Dancing with the Stars, as well as The Price is Right and we soon hope to add Wii Fit, Wii Active and the Big Brain Academy. Never used the Wii and aren't sure how to play the games? Have no fear the Senior Center has volunteers available each day the Wii's in use to help you learn the games and attain the benefits Wii has to offer. The Nintendo Wii is in use in Senior Centers, Assisted Living facilities and even in physi- cal therapy offices across the nation. Video games are no longer just toys for children. In particular the Wii is great for any age group. The Wii is so much fun that a number of Neal Center participants now have their own Wii at home. Research has also proven that the physical and mental stimulation provided by playing Wii Games can help improve your memory as well as shed a few pounds.
