ARNOLD WRAY Mr. Arnold Wray, 77, of Shelby, passed away on Sunday, October 30. Services were held at Faith Baptist Church. Burial was held in the church cemetery. Mr. Wray was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Barbara Martin Wray; three sisters; Kathleen Hughley, Brenda Lovelace, and Edith Geraldine Wray; two brothers, Marion and Donald Wray; and daughter in law, Mary Wray. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Louise Hamrick Wray; daughter, Barbara Martin and husband James of Shelby; three sons, Steve Wray and wife Wanda of Kings Mountain, Dale Wray, and Joe Wray, both of Shelby; two brothers, Gene Wray and wife Priscilla, and Frank Wray and wife Judy, all of Shelby; Six grandsons; and 17 great grandchildren. CARL GOLD MARTIN Mr. Carl Gold Martin, age 89, of Shelby, NC passed away on Sunday October 30, 2011. Memorial services were held at Webb Chapel of First Baptist Church. A private burial was held at Zion Baptist Church. Mr. Martin served our country in the U.S. Navy dur- ing WWII and received the Asiatic-Pacific medal with 8 battle stars. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and received the Philippine Liberation Medal. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his first wife, Sadie Clark Martin; his par- ents, Marcus and Mittie Gold Martin; a brother, Randolph Martin; and a sister, Margaret Barnhart. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Louise "Weasy" Horn Martin; three sons, Mike Martin and wife Jo of Greer SC, Tim Martin and wife Carol of Fort Collins Colorado, and Mal Martin and wife Melinda of Raleigh. Four Step-daughters, Patricia Noggle and husband Danny, Elizabeth "Bit" Ray and hus- band Dwayne, and Jane Hamrick all of Shelby and Kathy Condie and husband Scott of Ridgeland SC.; a brother, George Martin and wife Katheryn of Shelby; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mr. Frank Edwin Miller, Jr., 94, of Cherryville, passed away Monday, October 31, 2011. A Celebration of Life Service was held at Hull's Grove Baptist Church in Vale. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia Callow Miller; his parents, Frank E. Miller, Sr. and Marion Johnson Miller; three brothers, Paul, Roy, and Robert Miller; grandson, Scotty Miller and one great- grandson. Mr. Howell served our country in the US Army as a military policeman during Vietnam. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Dean Howell.
