FISHING REPORT FISHING REPOR Kosa The retirees have fished twice since I last reported. The first one was on Lake Wylie. David O'Shields and John Black and they won with 9.20. They also had the big fish of the day with a 2.65 largemouth. Tom Mayhew and John Rankin dusted off the cobwebs and took second with 6.50. Third with 4.80 was James Haynes and Tommy Wess. Last week, the retirees headed to Lake Norman and while he switched back to his usual partner, (Roger McNeily), John Black still got some help with his truck payment as they won with 7.20. Dean Champion and Fred Wright had 5.20 and was second. David O'Shields and Doug Sparrow had 4.95 and took third. Big bass was a 2.25 largemouth brought in by Champion and Wright. This week it is back to Lake Wylie, as Lake Hickory has been dropped from the schedule. Bass Casters The Bass Casters club fished Stumpy Pond this past weekend for their October event. Mitch McCracken picked up the win with 9.10. Terry Knight had 8.9 and was second with Randy Scarborough in third with 6.11. Brandon Scarborough had 4.13 and took fourth while fifth went to Ricky McKenny with 2.7. Big bass of the day was a 3.8 largemouth brought in by Brandon Scarborough. This week, the Bass Casters will fish their top ten fish-off, on a lake to be decided that morning and on November 13, they will fish their November event on Lake Wylie from 8-4. Doing so will give you more room to swing your shotgun without awkwardly twisting your body. Also, make a conscious effort to follow through with your swing. Stopping a swing is why most people miss. Keep your cheek down on the stock as you follow through and don't immediately look up to see if you hit the bird. When a bird flushes, don't mount your shotgun too soon. Focus on the target before you mount the gun. Stay focused on the target, not the shotgun bead. FISHING BOABOATS BOATS By Gary Miller I'm one of those guys who really try to be prepared – really overly prepared. It seems that I've done this hunting and fi shing thing for so long, that I know it is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. And when it comes to deer hunting away from home and in the cold; it is that much more crucial. As a result of my hang-up, my favorite piece of gear is a backpack. I prefer one that is at least 3000 cubic inches and has lots of ways to tie stuff down on the outside as well. It is good for it to be waterproof also. It seems that no matter how warm it may be, I'm still carrying a backpack. This time of year I will not only have my pack but will stuff it strategically with extra gear to keep me warm. The last garments I put on will be at the bottom of the bag and the fi rst ones at the top. And I always have to make room for rain gear, a screw in umbrella, and the latest book that I'm reading. Oh, and did I mention a snack. I got to have a snack and a drink. Well, you can imagine how most people would think I'm on a week long excursion instead of a morning hunt. But that's the way I am most comfortable and when I fi nally arrive in the tree stand, I feel I'm ready for the hunt; because it's all about the hunt. When I think about my systematic ap- proach, I frequently think about the Bible FARM • HEAVY EQUIPMENT ARM • HEAVY EQUIPMENT 1999 DOUBLE AXLE TRAILER 16' long x 6' 3" wide with 6' long tongue. After Paul the writer describes the battle, and before he lists each piece of armor, he makes this statement. "Having done all to stand, stand therefore…." I like that. Having done all to stand. This is my call to readiness and preparedness. This is my admonition to pack my backpack with thought and effort. This is my challenge to make sure every tool for the battle is in its place and available if needed. But my mind does not go to the hunt. It goes to the spiritual battle that God has called me and every one of us to enter in. For me, the emphasis is not only on my method or my perfectly, concise preparation, but it is on the command to stand. "Stand there- fore!" Don't just sit there. Don't just admire your gear. Don't just brag about the fact that you are well prepared. But get off the bench. Get in the fi ght. Take a few hits. Endure the coldness of the world and the winds of opposition. And if you can't make a difference, at least make an impression. That's what God wants from us and He has perfectly built each individual, and es- pecially the man, to not only put on the armor, but to stand. www.outdoortruths.org FARM • HEAVY EQUIPMENT ARM • HEAVY EQUIPMENT POULTRY LITTER MACHINE.
