The special dinner was held at the Boiling Springs Friend- ship Lodge for Javan Eddie Cook, known to everyone as Eddie. He is a member of Lodge 744 and has epi- lepsy. Eddie was the manager of Shelby Music Center when he had to stop working this past June. He began working there at the age of 16 and rose to become the manager. The unpredictable chronic neurological disorder has made it impossible for Eddie to continue the job he loved and worked at for twenty-six years. He also credits Charles Reid, owner of Shelby Music (now deceased) for making him a good Christian. Ed- die experiences tonic-clonic seizures (formally known as grand mal seizures) that affect the entire brain. These are the most commonly associated with epilep- sy. Eddie is presently undergoing tests for a possible operation. To help with his mounting medical costs, Lodge 744 decided to hold the fund-raiser on Satur- day, October 29. Eddie said he was overwhelmed by the event and very grateful for everyone's help. –M. A.
