FISHING REPORT FISHING REPOR KOSA The retirees from Kosa fished Lake Wylie last week with Mack Wyatt and Johnny Christainberry getting the win with 11.0. They anchored their catch with the big bass of the day, a 2.90 largemouth. Tommy Wess and James Haynes had 7.0 and took second while John Black fished solo and settled in third with 5.40. This week the old timers head to Lake Hickory and all I can say about that is, better them than me. MOSS Twenty boats fished the weekly Thursday night bass tournament last week on Moss Lake. Brian and Cody Hoyle had 10.14 and won while Matt Arey and Les Dulin took sec- ond with 9.0. Chris Edwards and Donnie Beason had 8.10 and got third with Johnny and Reggie Guffey taking fourth with 6.15. Jody Black and Jason Rhodes rounded out the top five with 5.94. CCBC The Cleveland County Bass Club will fish their August bass tournament this weekend on High Rock Lake. Hopefully I can get a top ten after this event to start the watch on making the prestigious top ten fish-off. If anyone has any suggestions on stories or pictures of their catch or kill, you can e-mail me at plail5@carolina.rr.com. Even during the dead of summer and even on clear bodies of water. If walleye aren’t biting in deep or mid-range water, it pays sometimes to check out the shallows. Hard bottom is a good place to start looking for walleyes but if no one’s home, check out sand, mud, or weedlines. If those areas don’t produce, the fish could be suspended. Warm-water walleyes are finicky feeders that must be teased with live bait rigs or jigs. However, on some of the country’s most productive walleye waters, rigs and jigs are rarely used. Lake Erie, the world’s #1 walleye water, is a good example. Erie’s walleyes respond best to crankbaits or spinners trolled at high speeds or weight-forward spinners that are cast and retrieved. The fi shing was as stifl ing as the humid July night. We checked the water tempera- ture at one point and it read just below 90 degrees. I can imagine how the fi sh must have thought that the effort to at- tack any bait would burn more calories than the prize would offer. It was just not worth it. The human perspective felt equally dismal, but it’s fi shing, and somebody has to do it. We were glad to volunteer, and we also knew that even if the fi shing was bad, the conversa- tions would be good. The night would not be lost. After several hours, I can say “thank God” for good conversation, even if I can’t say “thank God” for the fi sh. I’ve noticed that many times the out- come I had planned for was not the one I received. I think this is one of the draws to hunting and fi shing – that no matter what we envision a trip to be, it always throws us an unexpected curve. And it’s this curve that actually becomes the real story. In fact, they are what sepa- rate one adventure from another. Just think about telling this story each time you went out……… “Hey, I went fi shing today and I caught (insert number here) fi sh.” Let’s say you told that each week, in the same way, with the same fervor, ...get out & enjoy nature! Gary Miller Aiming Outdoorsmen Aiming Outdoorsmen Toward Christ oward Christ and with the same results. What if that was all you were ever able to tell? How boring would that be? And who would really want to take up the sport of fi shing? Not too many. You see, it is in the unexpected details that bring fullness to an event or activity. For instance, let me tell you about hug- ging a houseboat for dear life while the bass boat was fi lling up with water and while lightening was hitting a hundred yards away; and people will listen if it is just to fi nd out where they might fi nd a sunken boat. Excuse me, but do you really want to know why many men don’t come to church or want our Christian life? It’s be- cause our lives tell the same story each week. And it’s not one of full of spiritual curves, change ups, homeruns, or even strike outs. It is one of spiritual boredom that comes because we are afraid of the unexpected results that might come if we really give ourselves wholly to Him. Ask God to do something in your life that can only be explained as a move of God, and you won’t have a problem in telling an exciting story whether it in- volves catching fi sh or not. www.outdoortruths.or FARM • HEAVY EQUIPMENT ARM • HEAVY EQUIPMENT 1995 FORD F-700 Lo-Pro dump truck, 14’, automatic, air, stereo.
