John Hunnicutt of Shelby passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2011. A celebration of life service was held at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery. Mr. Hunnicutt served his country in World War II in the armed forces as a para- trooper. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manning and Nina Dameron Hunnicutt and a sister, Ella Lee Brooks. He is survived by his devoted wife of almost six- ty-six years, Dorcas Tesner Hunnicutt; two sons and daughter in laws, Bobby and Jan Hunnnicutt of Ellenboro and Barry and Patti Hunnicutt of Shelby; eight grandchildren, sixteen great- grandchildren; one brother, Manning Honeycutt, Jr.; and two sisters, Frances Toney and Dorothy Lail.
