The All American Bowl was created to fill the void of the lack of all star games available to athletes in High School. Can we co-exist? Why are black bears so unique? What should I do if I see a black bear? The program will begin at 11:00 am in the Visitor Center. 6/25 – “The 10 Essentials” – Saturday – What items should you always carry with you when hiking? Meet a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm to learn about the “10 Essentials”. 6/26 – “Animals of the South Mountains” – Sunday – Join a Park Ranger to learn about the many animals that call South Mountains home. The program will begin at 2:00 pm in the Visitor Center audito- rium. South Mountains State Park is located south of Morganton off of old Highway 18. Cleveland County Memorial Library Readers of all ages will travel the globe this sum- mer as the Cleveland Memorial Library presents “One World, Many Stories,” during the summer reading pro- gram. Children will explore places from Africa, China , England , Italy , and Japan to Mexico through stories, crafts, music, games, dance, and other activities. The Summer Reading Program is open to young people, pre-school through 6th grade, with programs, story-hours, reading for prizes and more. The Summer Reading Program will last six weeks from June 13th to July 28th. There will be no programs during the week of July 4th to 8th. No pre-registration is required and all programs are free to the public. Locations and times are as follows: Spangler Branch Library - Lawndale , NC Mondays 20th and 27th; July 11th, and July 18th. Cleveland County Memorial Library – Shelby, NC Thursday June 16th, 23rd, and 30th; July 14th, and July 21st. The Cleveland County Memorial Library will offer a program at Township 3 Elementary School in Earl , NC on Fridays, June 17th, 24th; July 15th, and 22nd. The times for the programs are 10:00 am – 11:00 am. The Costume Party and The Taste of The World for 1st – 6th grade will be held on July 28th from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm in the Large Meeting Room at the Cleveland County Memorial Library. Cleveland County Arts Council The purpose of this exhibit is to move the focus from public work produced by graffiti, tattoo or comic artists and shift it to their other body of artwork not seen on bodies, buildings and books. Shelby Parks & Recreation Baseball The purpose of this league is to teach fundamen- tals of baseball for players that are moving up to the next league and will also help refine the skills of those players that are still playing at their league level. This league will meet 2 to 3 times per week, and will run through August 11th. Try-out informa- tion will be available when you sign-up. Sign-ups for Second Season Baseball (league ages 8-14 years) will be held through Friday, July 1st. Sign-up hours are 8:30AM – 5:30 PM. Sign-ups include Pee-Wee Baseball (8-10 years), Little Tar Heel Baseball (11 & 12 years) and Junior Tar Heel Baseball (13 & 14 years). Note: Junior League is contingent on having enough players to participate. League ages are as of May 1st, 2011. When signing up a player must have a parent or guardian present and a copy of their birth certificate, if they have not participated in the park league before. A $22.00 registration fee if player lives inside the city lim- its of Shelby, or a $37.00 registration fee for all others. PLAYERS THAT ARE CURRENTLY PLAYING IN OUR SUMMER LEAGUE WILL HAVE TO PAY A REGISTRATION FEE OF $5.00, AND MUST REGISTER TO PLAY. Classes run Monday through Thursday and include instruction on tumbling, balance beam, bars, rings and tumbl-trak. Instruction is available for children ages 3 and up. Kingstown Fish Fry/Hot Dog Sale & Yard Sale This event will be held on Saturday, June 25th at 7:00 am until... (Rain or Shine). The Fish Fry will begin at 11:00 am. Benefit Ride For Keith Price A Benefit Ride for Keith Price (cancer patient) will be held at Cliffside Park on Saturday, June 25, 2011. Registration will start at 10 am. Ride will start at 11 am. Single rider is $15.00; doubles $20.00, includes meal. Non riders are welcome!! There will be hot dog plates sold at $5.00 a plate which will include two hot dogs, chips, drink and dessert. There will also be a silent auction so please come on out and help us have a successful day. Directions to Cliffside Park: Take Hwy. 74 to Hwy. 120 exit. Coming from Rutherfordton: take a right off exit. Coming from Shelby: take a left off exit.
