Services were held at Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Military Rites. Mr. Bowen served our country in the U.S. Army dur- ing the Korean Conflict and in Greenland. He received the Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Medal and the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland Bowen and Nellie Poole Bowen; and 2 brothers, Howard and Dean Bowen. He is survived by is wife of 60 years, Hester Melton Bowen of the home; 2 daugh- ters, Gail Thornton, and Cindy Campos and husband Mel, all of Boiling Springs, NC; 2 brothers, Bobby Bowen and Garland Bowen, Jr. all of Shelby; 1 sister, Martha Jane Crosby of Shelby; 3 grandchildren; and 1 great- grandson.
